I think that one of Vanderbilt’s greatest strengths is the amount of student-faculty interaction. I have found my professors to be both approachable and genuinely interested in helping the students. Almost all of my classes have centered on class discussion and participation, and this provides a good opportunity to get to know other students, as well as the professors.

Overall Experience
Vanderbilt -
Nashville, TN
Any student beginning a college career will pass through the phase of questioning his or her decision. For Vanderbilt students, this phase is a short one. The beauty and excitement of campus quickly pushes away any negative thoughts. Southern hospitality is alive and strong around Vanderbilt, and for those out-of-towners, it’s usually a welcome surprise. Taking the time to meet new people, whether they are Southern natives or people from across the country, will make the transition from high school kid to college student a lot smoother. Finding your niche as any college is the most important thing to having a successful four years. Vanderbilt is big enough to accomodate almost anyone’s desires and small enough to make this campus feel like home for the years you spend here.
While Vanderbilt has a lot of positive qualities, it isn’t the best choice for everyone. Choosing Vanderbilt means choosing to be in a situation where name-brand clothes and high-end cars have a certain amount of importance. Most students come from white upperclass families, and while they may not all fit the sterotype of wealthy snobs, money is in abundance for most people on campus.

"I have never once regretted being at Vandy—even for a minute. I have found a lot of very good friends here, and I have had a lot of fun partying, as well. Nashville is a fun city with a lot going on. I would definitely recommend this school."

"I honestly did wonder if I would have been better off if I had gone to another school. Probably not. Vanderbilt is filled with Southern hospitality, good people, and great teachers."

"I’m having a lot of fun, and I’m being challenged by some of the best minds in the world. I can’t think of any way I could improve my college life."

"Vanderbilt is the place for me, and I’m glad I came here. My experience there so far is worth a lifetime, and I have two years left. I’m just really happy I didn’t go to Duke—I would be miserable."

"Even though a few friends are like family to me now, I think I would’ve enjoyed my college years more if I had transferred that first year or taken a more active interest in my college search. I needed somewhere more liberal, less preppy, and less Greek. However, I excelled in my classes and graduated with honors, and even spent time abroad, so maybe it all worked out in the end."
