Health & Safety:
At Abilene Christian, I see that there is a great amount of safety precautions. The people in Abilene are good, small town people, so even off campus you are safe, but while on campus, there is a seperate police department that responds to any and all criminal activity. The police are as much a part of the community at ACU as the students.

very strict policies, if you break the rules, it takes a little longer than it should for a response, but when the police do arrive, they come in full force. The rules are leinient but still hold firm. Its got to be pretty serious to get the cops involved, like a supposed DUI but more than the written rules is the fear of the unspoken rules that guide most behavior at this school. Alcohol is allowed off campus, but you are not to be seen on campus with any alcohol related items. Visitation is one day a week, for inside the dorms. My advice to any student is that you should be able to respect and conform to the rules, before you even apply

The food options offered around campus are good but not excellent. The Bean (our campus cafeteria) is a decent dining hall, but after your first year you tend to get tired of the options they have. The around campus venues are not as nutritionally friendly as The Bean but when on your way to class needing food they are a good place to stop and grab a bite.

Abilene weather is generally warm to hot until the "winter" season, during which it becomes unpredictable. One day it will be warm and sunny and the next it will be cold enough to wear a big jacket. Overall I enjoy the weather and the large amount of sunshine allows for plenty of outside sports and activities.

The professors are very knowledgeable about their specific areas of study, and they are actively involved in the student's experience at the school. The Science department is exceptional, and the Business and Education departments are world renowned. The registration process is relatively quick and easy when the server isn't bogged down from every student on campus trying to register; and the advisors work diligently with the students to figure out what classes best fit their schedule and count towards their major.

You don't really need a car. Parking is a rarity

For the most part Abilene shuts down around 9:30 s and except the dance halls and bars. I still find a lot to do just hanging out with my friends or doing stuff on campus.

It is cold in the morning when you go to class, but by the time you get out of that class it is pretty hot so you never know how to dress. When it rains a lot the campus floods but its not to bad.

Abilene Christian University has amazing professors who take all the time you need to understand the material. They truly want you to succeed in the class, not just pass it. The study abroad program is growing quickly as well as the campus in Abilene. The curriculum is challenging is some courses, but like I said the professors want to help you. You create your own schedule each semester but with the way the registration works, you have to hurry to get those classes. Also the upperclassmen get first pick and the freshman are left to get what's left.

The Christian environment at ACU is wonderful and unique. Abilene is in the Bible Belt of Texas, and so there are many churches. This great because it allows students to challenge their faith and discover new religions. There are also many unique traditions like Sing Song, which is an annual event where clubs and classes preform an A Capella medley of songs with hand motions, and crazy costumes. This event is like a second homecoming. Also almost all of the professors have their doctorate, or at the very least their masters. Every professor challenges every student to do their best, and they are all super helpful! This is a great school to go to because it is constantly challenging students, and preparing them for the outside world.

There are always available parking spots for current students on campus. The permit cost is very inexpensive ($5) which is great in comparison to other schools. The only complaint I have is that just are very small, and sometimes people's cars get minor damage.

The new rec center at ACU is perfect for hanging out and exercising!

ACU makes computers available to anyone and they are all great quality.

Gardner is the best girls freshman dorm, I love it!

Guys & Girls:
The ACU community is not very diverse so there is not much variation between girls and guys. When I speak of diversity, I refer to economically, racially and socially so everyone is basically the same minus a few individuals. However, people do not judge others on being the same or on those who choose to be different. Almost everyone at ACU is friendly and welcoming.

Involvement of Varsity sports is a big part of the ACU community. While we are not the best in every sport, our campus is filled with school spirit, especially at football and basketball games. During the first half of every football games, every ACU student stands unwaveringly until the halftime buzzer to show support.

ACU is a strict campus compared to a lot of other private schools. I don't think this is necessarily a bad thing because they, unlike alot of "announced Christian campuses", actually exemplify the values they preach. They are pretty strict about drinking, partying and visitation but overall it is not bad.

ACU has increased in diversity over the years but is still predominantly white.

Abilene has good options, but most of them are chain restaurants. There are a lot of affordable options though that are close to campus.

If you live in Texas, you know the weather is hot one day and cold the next. It gets fairly cold in the winter and extremely hot in the summer.

Lots of house parties. The few bars we have usually have country bands playing on weekends like Josh Abbott and Randy Rogers.

There are some popular places that mostly aren't too expensive. There just is not an overwhelming amount of them.

The facilities are pretty nice. There is an awesome Rec. There is always a lot going on around campus. It isn't hard finding things to get involved in.

If you want to use drugs at ACU, you really have to look for it. If you don't intentionally seek it out, you will probably never see it.

Because it is a very Christian school, there is not much open discussion about the LGBT community, although this is changing.
ACU is an expensive private school, so most assume that the students are from a middle or upper class economic background. Although there are students that fit this description, my experience has been that this is not always the case. There are several students who are either paying their own way, or who are very reliant on scholarships, grants, and loans.
There is a large international population on campus, but they have a tendency to stay within their own community (again, I see this starting to change as more attempts are being made to reach out to the larger ACU community).
The vast majority of the student body has some type of Christian affiliation. I think the only people I've met on-campus who do not identify themselves as Christian are the international students from East Asian countries where Buddhism is prominent.
Overall, I would say the students at ACU are very welcoming. What challenges exist now in terms of ethnic/racial diversity and sexual orientation are starting to be addressed more openly and there is a push for a more open dialogue as well.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
