The freshman dorms at ACU are great! it was always clean and it was a fun atmosphere. I was in one of the newer dorms my freshman year and I loved it
College Student 2013-04-12T00:35:35Z
The Dorms are in good conditions, and located in the heart of the campus, meaning that there is only a short walk to class.

There is not a lot of fans at some of the sporting events but the teams have some very good talent

The athletic teams here are ok. They are not what I would expect from a division 1 athletic program. Overall the sports are good, but have room to get better.

ACU is very technologically advanced. The library has a plethora of computers to use, most of them are Macs but there are many PCs as well. There are also laptops you can check out to use while in the library as well. There is a new technology center upstairs in the library called the Learning Studio with rooms to do group work. They have big screens that are computers and all the walls are covered in white boards. There are rooms to work on podcasts and video productions as well.

This is West Texas, so it will be hot and dry most of the time. Because of how flat it is here it is very windy as well. It is currently not raining very much at any time of the year. During winter it will get really cold for maybe a month or two (like in the 40s). If it snows or ices, which isn't often, school is cancelled. One year we were out for a whole week because of a freak ice and snow storm.

Student life on campus is great. You can be involved with so many different things. It's up to you whether or not you want to strive your hardest to get involved or not.

ACU is very involved with their students. They strive to have less people in the classes so there is more professor to student interaction. That is one thing I feel that ACU does amazing with is making sure you receive the proper education and learning as you possibly can.

This school has some pretty strict rules when it comes to dorm living on campus. You are not allowed boys in your room any day but Thursday for a few hours. If you don't follow this rule, you get a warning but then later could get kicked out of the dorm which will then lead you to not having a place to live. As long as you are mentally prepared to have strict rules and abide by them, you will be fine at this school.

Abilene Christian is a university where they care about the safety of the students so drugs and alcohol is not allowed

Personally, I like the strict rules at ACU. I know many people would give it a low grade because they wan their freedom, but most of the rules are designed to ease you into that freedom and insure your safety. For example, as a freshman you have a midnight curfew to be in your dorm. This may seem ridiculous, but when you have early morning classes, being forced to be in the dorm by midnight highly improves your chances of getting a reasonable amount of sleep. Also ACU is a dry campus, so all drug and alcohol use is forbidden. (Not to say that students don't partake in these activities, but it isn't as out in the open as at public colleges.) If you're going to ACU, you're paying a pretty high bill, so being encouraged to stay clean is very beneficial to your academic studies, which is, after all, what you are paying for.

The first two years, you are required to purchase a meal plan that includes all-you-care-to-eat at the Bean (the cafeteria) and Bean Bucks that can be used at any on-campus food provider (Chick-Fil-A, Quiznos, Pizza Hut, Einstein's, Starbucks, etc.) The meal plan is REALLY expensive, but the food is good. (I've had cafeteria food at other universities- the Bean is much better. I'm a really picky eater, but I'm usually satisfied with the food, and even when I'm not, you can always get a grilled cheese sandwich, waffles, salad, or go to the sandwich line.)

ACU is relatively small, so in general parking isn't bad. There are parking lots by all the dorms, which you have to live in your freshman and sophomore years, so really the only time parking is a problem is when you are off-campus. Even then, it's really not bad compared to large universities, you just have to walk a little farther than you might want to.

Health & Safety:
It's pretty safe--theft is the main problem we have, but it's not prevalent. We also have our own full-service police department (ACU PD) that has jurisdiction on campus and in Abilene.

It was a good program, but you have to work really hard to get to enjoy the best opportunities/go out of your way to do research, etc. I highly recommend trying to get into the PCT program within the Psychology department, which will give you research and presentation opportunities that most students don't get.
College Sophomore 2013-02-24T03:04:48Z
There are a lot of parking at acu. They don't have senior parking or fresh ant parking. Any lot is for any student if you have a parking permit. A lot of time you may just have to walk in order to get a spot.

There is sometimes school activities but a lot of times you have to find things to do yourself. The town basically closes down at like 10 o'clock on weekends. But just grab a movie and a friend and your set.
College Sophomore 2013-02-24T02:52:26Z
They have weird visiting hours in the dorm. Guys can only come over on Thursday nights.
College Junior 2013-02-22T07:21:17Z
ACU spends its money on things that need to be fixed before it idling new fancy things, so there are very few things that are out of date around campus. Some of the best technology available is provided for students in the AT&T learning center portion of the Brown Library, and the workout facilities at the Royce and Pam Money Student Recreation and Wellness Center are unmatched.

Abilene is a very small town where everyone knows everyone and where a woman never has to open a door for herself. Southern hospitality and the genuine loving atmosphere toward college students is amazing. Abilene does lack a lot in the way of night life, but with all of your friends living either on campus or within two miles from campus, you won't have any problems socializing.
College Junior 2013-02-22T07:13:23Z
ACU is a little bit too strict with their rule about no members of the opposite sex in the dorm except on Thursday nights. Sometimes I need furniture moved or something heavy carried upstairs because of a a recent shoulder surgery that I had, so this rule makes that very difficult.

Guys & Girls:
Guys - lots of different types (nice, funny, athletic, etc.)
Girls - Athletic, friendly, engaging, artsy.
Overall - people here are pretty obsessed with getting married by the time they leave.

At ACU we don't have the true "Greeks" and "non-Greeks". We have "social clubs", which are basically girls and guys groups on campus that function as our version of fraternities and sororities. They are more like close-knit families and those of use not in them (like me) do not feel left out of the campus community at all. I have many friends in various different clubs and they love being in them.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
