Beautiful Garden City surrounding the campus with a cute bucolic town next door, but if you go just a little further away you end up in Hempstead... not somewhere you want to be wandering along in the middle of the night.

I came in with a small scholarship under the area of study I chose. I immediately knew I would need more financial aid so I quickly went over the the financial aid office. Not only are the workers completely unreliable when it comes down to calling back a phone call, but they aren't exactly helpful when you talk to them in person either. Still, another year later I am in the same position. It seems that popular opinion of the schools' financial aid is that Adelphi is not very giving. If you really need the aid I would highly suggest consistently pushing for more financial aid and meeting in person.

The campus is small and students can walk from one place to another in a relatively short time. I commute, so I use a car to drive to the school, but there is a bus service that takes students from the campus to the LIRR.

There are two computer labs (one in the library and one in the commuter's lounge). I've never had a hard time finding a computer and working on it. The networks could be slow and sometimes one printer will not be working. Coming from Stony Brook University, where computer labs are everywhere and service is very quick, it may be difficult to adjust. But Adelphi is a small school and I find it suitable for the amount of students enrolled. There are computers elsewhere on campus for someone to check e-mail or use, which is convenient. There just isn't any printers attached.

Freshman usually get placed into random residence halls but once you become an upper class-man, you can choose where you want to reside in. There are two fairly new residence halls that even have their own bathroom in each room. Parking is usually easy to find. The newer residence halls are expensive. The older ones are cheaper but may lack air-conditioning.

Adelphi University is a "dry" campus, meaning that even if you are the age of twenty one you are not allowed to have alcohol on campus. Resident Assistants are very strict and Public Safety is around all the time. If you get caught, you have to meet with various people. Drugs are absolutely not allowed and even just the smell can get you in trouble. However, drinking done outside campus is okay, as long you are not a danger to yourself or to others.

I am a resident on campus and do not own a car but I heard from my friends who are commuters that parking is horrible. Especially if you have classes later in the day, there are no parking spots unless you park behind residence halls. However, residence halls are located at the end of campus. Parking spots are often blocked off for construction or for other reasons and causes trouble for students.

Generally, the computers run fairly well but there are often times the wireless connection fails. The computers in the library are usually most reliable, especially when you have to register for classes. The portable laptops are very slow. They often to not charge well and cause many problems for the class when we need them.

At the Hauppauge campus parking is free and always available

I am at the Hauppauge campus. It's small but efficient. The library is very quiet

The campus has two main cafeterias. One is more a buffet style, so to eat there you must have time. The other is more like a food court. That is more convenient because you can go in and out. There is also a shake store and a taco stand. Its good food.

The Public Safety and the entire school is very strict on having a no drugs or alcohol campus. Its a dry campus.

I came to Adelphi University because it has a great nursing program. I have like this school a lot. However, there is a lot of things that you must be on your own. For example, advisors. They will give you some advice, but most of the time you are just in and out. You have to research things yourself and then you can go and speak to one about their opinions. It is a very good school.

A very lovely neighborhood to walk through, especially in the autumn with all the trees changing colors. The people are fairly nice and friendly, and if you don't mind walking for 10 minutes or so, you can grab Chinese, pizza, or walk to stop & shop. There are shuttles that will take you to the mall, stop and shop, and train stations.

There is a continuous "upgrade" each two years, there are both Dells and Apple desktops which are up for use by anyone.
It just gets annoying to type in your username for everything so money is deducted from your account for printing (Adelphi will give you twentyfive dollars of free printing - 500 pieces of paper - each semester).

On an average night, there is almost nothing going on unless you make a trip to the lounge in your resident hall. However, there are nearby clubs in which you can pay to get in with an ID stating the age 0f 18 or older. The most popular evening to go on is Thursday, but drinks are fairly expensive and it costs 15 to enter.
Occasionally there are parties the University holds, nothing too late, and none too exciting. It's a dry campus, and if you're caught with weed or alcohol you can "get kicked off campus or even out".
There of course is still smoking and drinking.
There are fraternity parties, still not often, pay entry price and drink what you like. It's been $5 for me each time so far. I haven't heard of any sorority parties, and I'm in a fraternity.

this school is a private university, so it can be expensive, but they do help their students the best they can with scholarships and anything else.

the parking here is very bad, the commuters who drive, arrive at least an hour or 30mins before their class.. i would say get here first thing in the morning
College Junior 2012-09-14T18:51:51Z
the food on this campus is good, but like any campus the students do become tried of it.. we have alot of options to choose from, so cant get that tried of it.

Very Pleasant Staff – What really makes a difference in the academics is the professor's who are there to help guide you through each course. I found them to be very reasonable and able to be worked with. It makes a difference knowing that your not up against tough and rude teachers

first off the people are just F***king not cool, all the people basically leave for the weekend and most of them live around here. that leads to this, the party aspect of adelphi is like a car with no wheels its toally useless and the people that do party have been friends since they were like in high school. academics i well above normal for me. food sucks! literally i live off my own grocery and im paying 4000 or more grand a yr for food. the social part, the people here do not talk to you at all. i was at university of Connecticut for 6 weeks and i was cool with everyone, i came to adelphi and people give u that look in the hallways. with that im going back to the university of connecticut to finish college, i expect a better social life and the same academic. with that if you want to a small non social boring, ghost town, bad food university where the school work is great and you dont wanna have fun come here.

Not Enough Spots – If you dont arrive at school prior to 8:30 am, it will take a long time to find a spot or you wont find one at all.

Art History/ Honors College – I changed majors several times before settling on art history. I don't regret choosing art history. I find the program is a bit small, but the professors are very helpful and I have learned so much.
Regarding the Honors College, I have nothing bad to say about it. It will definitely help me get far in the future.

Garden City Vs. NYC – The campus is on Long Island, which is okay. But there's LIRR station right next to Adelphi which provides students access to New York City. That being said, it is a bit of a trek to get to NYC.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
