I will be attending Adelphi as a commuter as well, and I feel that there really isn't long island cliques, at Adelphi there is so much to do and so many different types of people that you will fit in no matter what, that's why I chose Adelphi as my college of choice.
Most students at Adelphi are commuters, so I wouldn't worry about finding your own niche at all!
