Agnes Scott is a liberal arts school with a small professor-to-student ratio, with rigorous academics and a thriving club life. The professors are all passionate about the subjects they teach and have had some experience in their fields, too. For the most part, they bring their all to each class. Not only are the professors intelligent and passionate, but they are also personable. There are few professors who are difficult to speak with about problems, anxieties, or comments about a class. The same can be said for all of the faculty and staff at Agnes. Everyone is committed to allowing students to learn and grow. The small community helps everything be personal.
Agnes helps to shape students into well-rounded individuals with the skills to enter a career. In order to get the full Agnes experience, it's important to put yourself out there. Many skills can't be acquired without reaching out to the College's offices or clubs/organizations. However, the most important thing any prospective student should remember about Agnes when making her big decision is that Agnes is a small, private, women's liberal arts college. All of these factors are important to consider because they will determine the experience you have. All in all, the Agnes experience is a wonderful one, but students should be aware that this experience is only obtained if they actively engage in the community around them.
Sometimes parking is hard to find, or you may have to park farther than usual. Other than that, it's not bad.
All dorms are spacious. The best option is apparently Inman, and lofts are available. There's no worst option, but upperclassmen can be placed in freshmen dorms if their applications/payment is turned in late. The people on each floor determines the social atmosphere. It's pretty costly, and the housing process is simple.
There's visibility among upperclassmen, and very strict rules for those who are under-aged. Usage is quite a bit. There's no peer pressure and policy enforcement is reasonable.
We are a very diverse institution. It is a very safe environment which is a lot of the draw for people to attend. You may think that there are only three type of genders but you are wrong. You may think that there are only three sexuallites but you will also be wrong. Agnes students are not afraid of correcting your political correctness. Watch yourself or you will be on the wrong end of an argument you didn't even know you were a part of.
Agnes is close to downtown Decatur, which has many places to dine out but it lacks a nightlife -- everything (even McDonald's) closes at 10. Safety around campus great because the schools owns most of the property around the campus and renters have to go through a special screening process. Gettin away from campus it easy because the Marta, public transportation, is just down a couple of blocks. And because Agnes prides itself of diversity and acceptance, the student body is very unaccepting of non-accepting people, if that makes sense. For example, if you believe that fur coats is nice, most people will not be able to respect that you like fur coats and will brand you as an animal killer or something.
