I really like ACC. Not much in to athletics. I do wish they had more sidewalks around the perimeter. There are many days I would have taken a walk around campus for a little exercise between classes if there were sidewalks to facilitate that. Not a fan of walking in the gutters.

Wireless is weak and drops my phone every time I walk down the hall. That is between every class, walking to/from the library, cafe, bathroom, etc. Limited availability of computers - the labs are open, but all the PC's are in use. Just not enough of them.

Getting the credits for my Military Transcripts has been crazy. If the descriptions don't match up precisely then I didn't get credit for them. I has been very frustrating and is still ongoing to try get what I think is the correct number of credits.

They were very helpful with the Financial Aid process... I had never had to go through this and they have helped me with the paperwork.

Tuition & Financial Aid:
The education is worth the money. I am not receiving financial aid for my education because of my fathers income, we did try for it, but, was decline and he was on disability that is the only problem I have with it.

Online classes are totally convenient for me. With a family to care for and a work schedule this is a great way for me to be able to continue my education and not forfeit being a mother. The classes are easy to follow and usually need little or no further instruction.

Online courses at Alamance Community College differ greatly from the traditional “face-to-face” classroom experience. It was definitely not what I expected. The workload is twice the amount AND you are your own instructor. I took online courses because I needed to be more flexible with my time, not because I had more of it. I can see where online courses could be advantageous to some; however, I would not recommend a full-time course load of them, especially if you work (part or full time) and/or have a family and home to take care of.
As per professor/student relationship, they were the best! Course plan was more than challenging for me, but I learned a lot. I just could not always keep up per my personal/work/family responsibilities; however, they were always willing and able to work with me.
Peer-to-peer interaction was really good per college's website. The ability to interact with fellow students helped me on more than one occasion.
I guess what it comes down to is what environment works best for a particular student. For me, I learned that a traditional classroom experience is best for me for I want to focus on what I want to learn, and what I am taking the course for. I am a 'hands on' personality. What was most frustrating about online programming courses was that "I want to learn it and do it" … not "learn it and write about it, read what others have to say about it, comment on what they had to say, and then write some more". I am a doer, not a writer.

Tuition & Financial Aid:
I am new to going back to school due to being laid off after more than 30 years, and am attending courses again to obtain a diploma and/or skill-up in the Computer Information Technology area in hopes to secure a new position. Being that I am attending a Community College, school's tuition is more than reasonable. Financial Aid personnel are awesome at Alamance Community College. However, there is only so much that they can do. The value of the education I have been received so far has been more than exceptional; and I have been more than impressed with college's curriculum and instructors.
In my opinion, it is sad that a college education has now become synonymous with financial aid. The only tips that I have for getting financial aid is to work with one’s college of choice’s financial aid department personnel; and I highly recommend that one researches education grants/scholarship options, too.

The computer network at Alamance Community College is great. Computer lab was exceptional to me for home PC/laptops outdated, and I was impressed that it had the latest of hardware/software (which was not the case 30 years ago when I first went to college). Cost of printing on campus is more than reasonable. However, the option for color printing would have been nice; and I would have been happy to pay extra per page for it. I never encountered any network unreliability or speed of access issues. As per wireless access, no problem there. As a matter of fact, I stopped bringing my laptop to school early on for I preferred working on PCs in Computer lab and/or Library. The only complaint that I have, and only on rare occasions, was that Computer Labs tend to be more noisy than in the Library. There are much fewer PCs in the Library, therefore hard to get a spot sometimes. I worked around this per knowing when to get to Library at optimum times to secure a PC.

My school is greatly appreciated when it comes to the help of the staff, ACC's staff is always there to help, everybody from teachers to the people that work in the financial aid office; their always willing to help with any questions or concerns you might have.

I am in the Dental Assisting program to get my Dental Assisting Certificate. In order to get into the program a student must be admitted. A student must apply, have a certain gpa and have taken certain classes. Only 30 people are admitted into the program each year. The program is highly convenient because it is only a year long.

The professors show interest in helping the students succeed. All of the academic adviser's are very helpful. If you have a question, and they do not have the answer for it, they will contact somebody who does. They go out of their way to make sure you are taking all the right classes.

There is always room for improvement at any facility. I feel that at ACC they hade taken the students' welfare into consideration and done a fine job in supplying the necessities.

This grade would be equal to a 3.0 which would be a good grade to carry and a GPA to be proud of, even though there's nothing greater to pat yourself on the back for than a 4.0 GPA which is what I often strive for. ACC is a people based institution where the instructors will go that extra mile to help the students learn. Also the work-study programs are very rewarding in training the students for becoming more productive citizens of society. Also, ACC have access to various fields of study giving students a wider range of career options. This is great because people have so many different interest and goals, here they have choices.
