Health & Safety:
Campus overall is very safe to walk about at night, as many of the buildings open late are very close to each other. Those living at the housings nearby will often be disturbed by loud students hanging around the track or parking lots. Safety is not an issue here as there are often security officers that patrol during the night.

The campus is not very strict at all. You may be questioned by the public safety if you are walking around campus at night, especially when there is an emergency. However, they will be more than happy to let you do your business as long as you carry an ID card.
School policies are outlined in the handbook and the syllabus of many professors and it is fairly standard and expected. Do not do anything stupid that lacks common sense and there will be no trouble.

The workload is very heavy. But there are tons of opportunities to get involved and network. There are lots of clubs and organizations pertaining to the profession and some just having to do with hobbies. There is some greek life, but most of it is pharmacy related and/or academic. Facilities are nice and a new athletic field was just put in. I use the track. There are lots of opportunities for internships (they are required).

As a commuter I pay ~260 for a parking permit for the year. The lot is small and sometimes you have to drive around for a while to find a spot- but most of the spots are very close to the buildings. They have city buses available and as a student you can ride CDTA free.

There is nightlife, but usually you are studying too much to enjoy it. I see many of the other students spending time going out. There aren't many "clubs" but people go to local bars and house parties.
College Junior 2013-08-28T22:45:35Z
The academics are very challenging. They try to "weed out" the students who aren't serious in the first few years, so professors are very tough on you. However, they spend a lot of time giving extra help if you seek it out. Even when classes are large they use "clickers" to keep everyone involved. The curriculum could use some work, sometimes the courses are too short and go too fast to thoroughly learn all of the information. Registration is hectic since there's only a window of a few hours to get classes, but they help you after registration closes if you didn't get the classes you want. The workload is heavy but that is to be expected.

Average. It can be a topic of conversation but not a huge issue

So far all of the staff has been very helpful in answering any questions I have regarding the program etc.

Many students are involved in a sport or a school activity. The teams do well each year, and the amount of people that come support depends on the sport. I feel that there could be more fan support from the school for the less popular sports. Our new outdoor field is beautiful, but out gym facilities inside could definitely be updated. The equipment is old, and the basketball gym is pretty small compared to most schools. I also feel that our school should try to become D3, or more well known for its sports so that people would be drawn to our school for more reasons than just academia.

The weather at Albany is typical New York weather. I do feel that is is much more windy on our campus however due to open areas. Snow is not usually a problem when driving, but it was difficult to walk from your on campus living to class because your usual ways of walking were blocked.

I feel that the financial aid process at the school could be modified and improved in many ways. It is nice that they email us scholarship opportunities, but many people are not elligable for the ones that they are forwarding along. Also, I feel that each year a student should be re-evaulated as to whether or not they deserve a scholarship. Many students who came into the school having a large academic scholarship have worse grades than students who try really hard and achieve much better GPA's each semester. To me, this does not seem fair. I think student re-evaluation for scholarship elligablitiy would be very useful and important. I also feel that financial aid could do a better job and one on one attention to specific student situations in order to better their situation and to give them advice that is relevant to them.

Going to school for your Doctorate in Pharmacy is extremely challenging. The workload is large and demanding, and each year the curriculum gets tougher. Our program is unique because each student in the program will be taking all of the same classes. All of your peers are on the same level as you which makes it easier to relate and to understand eachother's schedules. Most free time is spent studying and preparing for upcoming tests during the week and part of your weekend. This level of work is expected based on the curriculum, but it is easier to manage knowing that all of your friends are going through the same thing. ACPHS has a beautiful student center and library which are very accomidating day to day. When school is not in session, pharmacy students do IPPE and APPE rotations which help them make connections in the pharmacy world. These connections can one day lead to job opportunities, so it is great that our school helps us line these up.

Have great computers in the library that is very useful along with the printers.

Our girls basketball team won national championships and we have a really good cross country, soccer, and boys basketball team too.

ACPHS is known for its academic excellence. Our curriculum is always top notch and continues to change and improve with the changing times. Each and every professor brings unique learning styles and knowledge to the classroom which allows for a well rounded experience no matter what class you take. In each class, the professor always relates what we are learning to how it applies to our future jobs as pharmacists which is very important. Although the workload is extremely large and challenging, ACPHS offers many different study options such as group or individual tutoring, mentors, office hours, reviews, and workshops to help you get through any class. It is an excellent school for pharmacy, and I feel I will be extremely well prepared for the future.

There is a lot to do in the Albany area. There are a lot of parks, Saratoga race tracks, and great shopping.
College Sophomore 2013-08-12T20:24:18Z
I feel that the transportation at our school is very good. For all sports, transportation is provided through busses or other large vehicles. There is always transportation provided for outings or field trips such as the ones to Syracuse or NYC. This past year, they also allow us to use the metro busses which is very helpful when going out on the weekends. Our school provides a lot of opportunities for students to use.

There is a good amount of diversity on campus. A lot of different ethnic groups, although it seems everyone seems to stick pretty close to their ethnic groups.

I went to this school for the purpose of my major. It is the reason I went to ACPHS. It is very stressful, but i hope in the end it will be worth it all. I think there will be room for more pharmacists when I graduate.

It feels like 4/7 days its raining out during the fall/spring. The winter is just as bad with the snow. Classes are not cancelled very often.
College Sophomore 2013-07-30T21:07:47Z
The school is very specialized towards a single goal and basically only one major. Almost every single class is designed towards that major. That is the point of going to this school. However, the school does have some electives that go in a different more human/art/writing direction.
College Sophomore 2013-07-30T21:04:53Z
There is a single on campus food place. The food is much better than is has been in recent years.. but that is not saying a lot. You can get pretty bored of the food very quickly, and you usually tend to falling in to the habit of eating the same thing almost every single day. The staff is pretty good for the most part, but I always wish the food was better.
College Sophomore 2013-07-30T21:02:44Z
95% of the students go to the school for the same degree. It can be kind of competitive, and very very stressful. There is a lot expected of you, and you have to study a lot. The teachers go fast and cover a lot of material which you are expected to know. The work load is hard, and you have to work a lot to get through it all. But in the end, you usually know your stuff pretty well.
College Sophomore 2013-07-30T21:00:02Z
There are very few restaurants in the local area. However, if you have a car and don't mind driving for 15 minutes, there is a very wide variety.
College Sophomore 2013-07-30T20:57:23Z
Every student has to buy the same computer, but there are some spares that you can use if yours breaks. The computers are not the greatest, but they get the job done. There are a limited quantity.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
