Overall, I think Albany's campus is very safe. I don't have any personal problems with it and in fact the security are probably a bit too overzealous with trying to take care of things.
There are always many things to do. There are several local colleges and most things are within walking distance.
It's super expensive, not open at convenient times, and doesn't have a plethora of healthy options. I understand they are trying to make improvements, but the cost is a bit outrageous considering what you get. Plus, you are forced to buy a very large meal plan during freshman and sophomore year.
The student population is very small, and yet there is a decent representation from many other ethnicities and backgrounds.
I received a lot of merit-based aid, but the schools administration isn't all that great. They lost important documents belonging to my mother, and repeatedly offered subsidized stafford loans only to then rescind the offer.
