My experience really got off t a slow start with complications in registration and financial aid.... much disorder. However once that was in place the opportunit has been great and the instructors are so very helpful. This university has made me feel at ease about being a non traditonal student.

Health & Safety:
Campus Safety – I do not live on campus as I am a non-traditional student. I have never lived on campus. I feel safe when on campus day or night and have never heard of or witnessed unsafe activity.

Can You Feel the Breeze??? The atmosphere around Albany State University is wonderful. Albany being that it is a small southern town the people are very warm and welcoming. The community definately assimilates itself into the college campus and the whole city shuts down during Homecoming Week. Albany is also very historic to the civil rights movement and the home of hiphop stars Field Mob.

Golden Rams Love It or Hate It – The facilities at Albany State University are some what modern but there are many that are in a great need of repair. The traditional style dorms need to be renevated and restored at the very least for the health of the students. The Science facilities are no where near up to date there by suffering those students in those programs. I believe there should be a building specificaly for those majors. Other than that Albany State is on the right track.

the transportation in Albany is easy to use, there are buses that go to everywhere around here. for the long distance (to a different state or to nyc) transportation students need to go to downtown to take the greyhound bus. the bus that goes to downtown picks up students from campus and is very convenient to use. the only problem with the buses would be that their schedule is a little off, they may be early or late sometimes.

Guys & Girls:
Guys and Girls at SUNY Albany – there are a lot of different kind of guys and girls at Albany. However most people's looks and interest are similar, a lot of people when they come to college all they want to do is to experience. So they want to go out have fun with other friends. In Albany, every thursday, friday and saturday nights you will see a big crowd waiting in front of the bus stop to go to downtown. I realized there is a small amount of people who actually act and dress different than others. Even though Albany is a very diverse community, when it comes to guys and girls the diversity does not grow as wide.

Albany is a very diverse community, the students come from all kinds of various cultural and racial backgrounds. What I have seen around campus is that students from different backgrounds are able to get along and work together well. However what attracted my attention was that in their outside of class times, most students prefer to spend time with other similar background students. this usually happens during lunch/dinner/breakfast times, or when it comes to living together. Most students prefer to live with others who are from the same cultural/racial background as them. The diversity of sexual orientation is not as obvious as the racial diversity, however I have seen some student associations that are for gay/lesbian students and I believe they are having events to support gay/lesbian rights, however those events are not as common and not heard by many students on campus. For the economic background, most students come from similar backgrounds since Suny is a state university. I am sure there is a certain kind of variety when it comes to economic backgrounds, however it is not really obvious.

Diversity and Intellect – What sets our school apart from other schools is it's diversity and students. The percentage of ethnicity is nearly the same and i consider that a plus for a HBCU. Also, we have some of the mst talented and intellectual students at our school...

In Albany there really isn't much to choose from. They good thing about that is the cost of them isn't that much. They are affordable but not cheap and they also look good on the inside.

There Is Always Something to Do at Night Wed.Through Sat.! Party party party! Everyone seems to get wasted! (wasted as in drunk, lol) There is always a party going on. Not all are big but there are always parties. First off, our weekend starts on thursday night b/c no one has classes on fridays. Sometimes the weekend starts wednesday b/c there may a special event.
In the beginning of each semester, parties are a huge hit. Especially foam parties. Our two major clubs are: Excape & The State Theater. Major difference between the clubs. Excape is kind of a hole in the wall. Security checks you at the door & all bets are off after that. Get your friend to buy you a drink & you won't have to worry about a security guard going through the crowds looking for minors. Its a really fun time. But when it gets packed... Boy oh boy it gets super hot! I mean it is a true s-w-e-a-t box. One particular frat loves to have their parties in there because that is where they have their speciality drinks. Now State... Main issue is that they like to hold the lines for no reason what so ever. It is pretty big on the inside. Nothing breath taking but a step up from Excape. Night life is at its finest during soro & frat weeks or special holiday like end of the semester, after mid-terms, spring break, etc. It truly is what you make it & sometimes we create our own reasons to have parties.
There are other clubs like The Trap (originally the Sandtrap) & Chill Bar & Lounge (poetry wednesday nights & open to all) which are 21 & up.
Not a partier? Its okay. There are bowling allies & a place to shoot pool, watch movies, etc.

ASU Meals Isn't the Best but Aren't the Worst – The ASU cafe stays open from 7 A.M. till 7:30 P.M. However, don't let it fool you. There is breakfast, light breakfast, lunch, light lunch, and dinner. Light breakfast is a continental breakfast and light lunch is sandwiches & pizza & salads... That is something that never fails. Most students have the fifteen meal plan meaning you can eat fifteen meals throughout the week. Most of the time you get too busy to eat every meal. There is also the 21 meal plan which is all three meals every day, as well there is a five meal plan & you get five meals through out the week and that is generally for off campus students. We have a subway on campus & we also have a diner type place in the Union where they have the grill which serves hot dogs, hamburgers, etc., and there is the wokary which serves Lo Mien & Rice stir fry cooked to order. You can use your meal plan at both places. We are awarded ram buck which takes money out of our meal plan. 21 meal plans pays for your entire meal, 15 meal plan pays a certain amount and any thing extra you pay for out of pocket. Lastly, across the street is Maryland's chicken which gives student discounts.
ASU meals isn't the best but aren't the worst. For the most part there food

Smoking Is the Way of Life – Drugs such as ecstacy, dust, etc. are not common among the students at our school. However, typically students do partake in smoking weed/marijuana, especially at parties. Although students are told that our campus is dry,I may walk past a group of people & smell it in the air or I may go to a party or the club where smoking is absolutely unavoidable. However, students are not pressured to smoke or buy, I honestly have no idea who these students get their supply from. But I am fully aware that unfortunately, smoking is the way of life for students.

Not THAT Bad! Many people complain about the weather here because they feel it's too extreme. It's normal to me and not much different than other places in the South. In the summer it's very hot and humid and in the winter it's pretty chilly. It's only snowed twice since I've been here and it rains pretty often year-round except for the fall. Generally the weather is very tolerable.

Bark Worse Than It's Bite – The police force can be pretty strict about underage drinking and drug use. Do everything discreetly and don't be obnoxious about it. If you're going to drink then drink, but don't start advertising keg parties in your room. You will get busted! HOWEVER, most of the time they do let you off the hook especially if it's your first offense.

Sorry, there are no reviews.
