Sororities seem to be well involved in the community and the school, while Frats seems to be all party. But, everyone is welcomed to get togethers with Greek life.

Albion College seems to be working towards making the college a more diverse environment, but most students do not seem to be cooperating. And why wouldn't they hesitate? This is a predominately white college after all, with more international students than black students. Students--the white students, I feel--are still afraid of speaking a certain way and using certain terms because of the fear of being accused of racism or for being prejudice. It also seems as if no one cares fully for each other, other than their own race, or the few friends they've gained coming into the school, or knowing before college. I never feel threatened by the idea of being the only colored face in the classrooms. What gets me though is the lack of acknowledgement of being of another ethnicity, and not just my black face. But, I appreciate what the school is doing, and no one can be forced to accept that sort of change, but college is where we learn really about ourselves, so I really can't complain.

There isn't really a need for transportation across campus, but campus safety will drive students to desired places for free if needed. There are shuttles on weekends that travel long-distance to shopping places and the movie theatre that are also free.

There's little to no off-campus housing at school. Almost everyone lives on campus. It's possible to rent a house in town, but it can be difficult to find an affordable house. There isn't really any help through the school to find off-campus housing.

Drugs and alcohol are somewhat visible on campus, and many students drink alcohol. Students do not usually pressure others to take part in drug or alcohol use. The drug policies are more strictly enforced than the alcohol policies.

The local weather does not affect my campus experience all that much. However once there is an abundance of snow and the weather becomes very cold, less students attend classes.

There's an equal number of sports involvement as there isn't. Greek life is way bigger of a deal than sporting events by far.

We live in the middle of nowhere so there is literally nothing to do and public transportation doesn't exist outside of Campus safety. The fraternities are the only places to hang out on the weekends which is fun but can get boring very fast.

They focus a lot on trying to be diverse but majority of students are from the suburbs of Detroit who have family money. It's the typical liberal arts type of school.

You get what you pay for. Mediocre academics, mildly challenging courseload, and largely unmotivated peers. Students here do their work, but fail to think and express sophisticated ideas.

Parking has not been an issue for me. Cars aren't even necessary unless, you need to drive to Ann Arbor or Jackson to check on the status of civilization. Campus safety is quite strict with adherence to parking rules, so never park in a lot or space that you haven't been assigned to!

Massive amount of snow suffocate the campus until mid april. Mud season last a full two months, and there is overcast 80% of the time. Classes are rarely cancelled due to inclement weather because of the close proximity of the classes to the dorms.

Achieving your major is almost too easy. The process is a bit watered down, and oversimplified. Not a dynamic college experience.

Fraternity Parties Are Big – Albion is a very small town. Therefore all nightlife happens at the 6 frat houses on campus which are extremely fun. Campus Safety usually doesn't bother you if you are inside any of the frats.
College Senior 2012-08-29T20:07:32Z
Students Are Not Allowed Off-Campus – Albion College has a strict no off-campus housing plan unless students provide a valid medical reason. The college says that it wants to keep a "residential atmosphere" among the students so everyone must live on campus.

Campus Safety Is Relaxed – Most of the time at Albion College the Campus Safety staff isn't very severe. As long as you are not creating a ruckus or distraction they pretty much leave you alone. Drugs are taken very seriously at Albion though and the punishments for being caught with them can get severe.
College Senior 2012-08-29T20:04:03Z
Drinking Is Popular – The social scene at Albion College frequently contains parties with alcohol involved. Besides drinking though, drugs are not popular at Albion. You never really see or hear people using them.

I am a senior at Albion College and love my major. The professors are very helpful and available as well as kind and understanding. I never felt like I was a number in a crowd or that I couldn't approach a professor with a question or problem. Many of them are friendly and willing to help you with any situation whether it be academic or personal. The classes are very informative and relevant and I believe it is one of the best major choices that Albion College has to offer.

There is no formal application process to get into a major at Albion College with the exception of the institutes. You are free to change your mind and flip flop a little before you decide on a track. For instance, I did not establish a major until my junior year and just in that time until now, I have decided on a minor and a concentration as well.

Internships in the Psychology Department – I have had one part time internship already and am going to be completing a second, full time internship this fall (2012). I have had a great experience with the internship opportunities. The internship advisors are very open and available as well as willing to work with you to get you the opportunity that you want. My first internship impacted me so much that it directed me into more education and the path in which I want to establish my career. Most internships through Albion College are unpaid. They are purely for experience.

Psychological Sciences Major – I love being a psych major at Albion. It has opened my eyes to what I think is my calling in life and has given me lots of opportunities to explore these interests. I have had the chance to do internships and get experience outside the classroom that will make my application process for graduate school this fall more robust and portray me as a worthwhile candidate. I would never change my path at Albion and I think it has shaped me as a person.

Guys & Girls:
All Different Kinds – There are lots of different kinds of people at Albion. People who are rich to people who struggle with money and work a ton on campus. Mainly white people but also lots of international students.

I Love It – Albion College has a great community atmosphere. The professors are great, classes are small which gives you one on one time with professors, and the faculty are also great. There are tons of things to do on campus and there's something for everyone it seems like. There are many good places on campus to study, the dorms are great, and there are many chances to meet new people. I love it here.

Forget wanting to live on your own. Albion wants you for every penny, so they only allow you to live in their housing. Their board prices are absolutely unreasonable. They do offer houses and apartments, but the cost is awful. and you're not allowed to stay in your house or apartment during breaks.

Greek Life at Albion is HUGE. So many people join sororities and fraternities. They always have special events going on and seem like really fun groups. Even if you're not a part of greek life, it doesn't matter. Everyone is friends with everyone.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
