Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Albion may only be a Division III school, but a large number of students come to Albion because they want to play sports. With a wide variety of teams, almost everyone has opportunity to compete. There are 18 varsity sports offered and plenty of intramural sports available for those who want to participate. Spectators are sometimes few and far between, but those who do attend have some serious Briton pride.

Albion’s athletic facilities seem to improve every year. Name a sport, and Albion has a field, diamond, track, court, or stadium for it, with a canoeing facility on top of it all. If you’re an athlete, you’ll feel right at home in the Dow Recreation and Wellness Center. The building includes a pool, four tennis courts, a basketball court, a track, a weight room, and a plethora of cardio machines scattered about—all indoors. The most recent pride and joy of the Albion College Athletics Department is the Nancy G. Held Equestrian Center, spanning on 340 acres of the College’s land. Albion is the only private college in Michigan with an equestrian center on campus. There is not only an equestrian team that competes but also an equestrian club for those who just love horses.

I personally am not active in sports on Albion's campus. Our teams do fairly well in our division though. I also know that the people who are interested in sports on campus support it a lot. The majority of the campus is not super involved in our sports teams though.

I don't know much about the athletic program in Albion College but what I do know is that the student body enjoys the sports teams. We also have a great building that allows for varied ways to lift weights and excerise.

Athletic Facilities

Albion College is not famous for athletics, though there is a pretty high number of athletics. Yet, the college overall is more supportive of the medical science fields than the athletic field. But, our Dow Center, which is our sports center and gym is a big one with all the great equipments for working out, or sports practices, with a swimming pool too. It is also attached to two or three wide track and field, and football fields, (I can't remember exactly). There is also an indoor basketball hall in another building. So, it's like there's always proper place for almost all kinds of sports.

School Spirit

At Albion, it sometimes seems like students are prouder of what fraternity or sorority they belong to than the school itself. Greek apparel is everywhere on campus, which makes sense as about half of the campus goes Greek. Greek Week seems to be what really gets the campus excited. Although, homecoming weekend is also a big deal on campus. Alumni return for both of these, and the campus seems much livelier during these times. No one is ashamed to go to Albion. It is a good school with a good reputation, and that sums it up.

Getting Tickets

Albion College athletic events are open to the public. Admission is charged only for football and men’s basketball games.
