College Prowler Take
Albion has been named one of the “Most Wired” schools in the United States for good reason. Every dorm, building, and classroom has been set up for either a wired or wireless connection. You’ll find it easy to connect to the school’s network, as computer labs are in almost every building on campus. With so many possibilities available, lab crowding is only a problem when it’s close to midterms or finals. Even so, it’s well worth the money to have your own computer. It just makes things easier sometimes. The other great part about Albion technology is the IT staff at the computer help desk, located in Ferguson across from the Ferg computer lab. If you have a problem with your personal laptop or desktop, IT will do whatever it can to try to fix the problem, free of charge. They also offer a great software package that is free to students and full of college necessities, which can be a nice surprise to incoming freshmen.

The computer network is great and very convenient since your computer in your room can be hooked up to it. There are always computer labs available in the dorms, Robinson Hall, the library, and the Ferguson 24-hour lab, as well as in some other buildings on campus. The labs can be crowded at certain times, but there is pretty much always a computer available. |

I, like most students, am a big fan of the H drive. It’s nice to be able to access your information anywhere on campus, as long as it’s on the H drive. It’s nice to have Ethernet, too. It’s a lot faster and much more convenient than dial-up. During finals, the Mitchell computer lab is almost always full, as is the Ferg 24-hour computer lab. However, the Wesley computer lab is larger, and I never recall it being full my freshman year, even during finals. |

It seems that the computer lab in Wesley Hall always has problems, especially with the printers. Ferguson is really nice, but most of the time I prefer to use my own computer and printer. |

I think that the technology at Albion is great. The laptop I brought to school proved invaluable. I was able to use it in almost every building with the network’s wireless coverage. I love the Ferg lab because it is open 24/7, and it’s comfortable. It can get crowded at night around crunch time, but other than that, it‘s alright. |

The only time it’s hard to find a place to work is at the very end of semesters when everybody realizes they have to do something. |
