Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

As mentioned by many students, the drug scene on campus is hardly overwhelming. Drugs are definitely present, but they don’t often find you if you aren’t looking for them. This is why there are fewer drug violations on campus than alcohol violations. As with most college campuses, alcohol is very present. This is a fact, whether the administration likes it or not. A lot of students use the excuse that they drink because there is so little to do at Albion, and this may be true. The trouble is when students become dependent on it to have a good time. Moderation is key, as usual.

The most recent craze of drugs, as with many American campuses, has been the use of amphetamines. Students mainly take these to pull all-nighters and study. This may say something about how desperate some students are to keep up with their classes and Albion’s rigorous curriculum.

Drugs at Albion?

Regardless of how strict or loose the college policy is, drugs can always be found on a college campus. What makes it a problem is how it is regulated. I feel Albion's students understand that regulation in drugs and alcohol are important. They don't pressure it onto others and they don't seem to overuse it where it negatively affects the college experience of the people around them.

The frats are full of alcohol, especially when people are rushing. Drug-use, marijuana or heavier drugs, I think typically occurs off-campus if it happens. Peer pressure can get bad because the party scene is pretty big, even if the parties aren't that great. Policy enforcement is average.

There are drugs, probably about the same amount of marijuana as in my high school, which is a decent amount. A lot of people will smoke it in a group at a party, but not as many people possess it on campus. There are also harder drugs—like coke, for instance—but it’s kept more hush-hush than marijuana. And, I know a lot of people like to abuse Adderall and painkillers.
