Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

With Campus Safety officers constantly roaming Albion’s well-lit campus, it is rare that a student feels unsafe. There have been a few incidents of violence and crime in the past, but as long as you care about and are aware of your safety, you shouldn’t have a problem. Campus Safety officers are more than happy to accompany students home at any time when they may feel unsafe. It is also a good idea to travel in groups, whether it be from a frat party or a late night study session. You just need to be careful.

There have been some complaints in the past few years about women’s health issues and the sexual assault policy on campus. Health Services is generally good about women’s health and offers birth control and gynecological services, but they do not offer any form of emergency contraception on campus. Albion’s sexual assault policy is “no tolerance” and while some students feel punishments should be harsher for offenders, the college does make an effort to aid sexual assault victims. The Anna Howard Shaw Women’s Center offers free counseling and a free sexual assault services hotline for all students in need.

Shady Town

There are some shady things that go on in the town of Albion. Every now and then the shadiness of the town will cross paths with the college but not very often. There are blue box phones everywhere and Campus Safety is very present.

I feel pretty safe on Albion’s campus, except late at night when I’m walking to my dorm from the library, the computer lab, or student union. While the Campus Safety escorts are an option, I don’t utilize them much because it’s faster just to walk the two blocks. I wish there were more emergency phones and better lighting on some of the pathways.

There have been a few issues with security in the last few years, usually involving college students and community members late at night near the edge or off campus. Overall though, it’s quite safe on campus. If students are smart about their own security, there’s really no problem at all.
