Quick Stats

School Slang
  • 115: The One Fifteen Truck Stop, located at exit 115 on westbound I-94. A favorite late-night haunt of students after a long night.
  • ACIS: Albion College Information System. This is the way to access student account information online. You can view your grades, transcripts, and class schedule here.
  • Albion time: Most classes and events start at 10 after the hour. So, if you have a class that starts at noon, it really means you have to leave your room at noon to get to class on time.
  • Eat Shop: The Eat Shop is on the second floor of the Kellogg Center and offers a variety of fast foods for those late-night cravings.
  • KC: The Kellogg Center, Albion’s equivalent to a student union.
  • Living Room: Short for the Langbo Living Room, the lounge located on the first floor of the Kellogg Center. The Living Room is a popular spot for meetings, receptions, or just hanging out. You can tickle the ivories if you are a piano player, or enjoy the fireplace during the winter.
  • The Mae: The Mae Harrison Karro Residential Village, the newest College-built apartments that house upperclassmen only.
  • Off-Campus Programs: The Center for International Education, the office that coordinates off-campus study opportunities both in the U.S. and abroad. The Center is located in the I-House.
  • The Pleiad: The school newspaper.
  • Quad: Most of Albion’s academic buildings surround the Quad. The Quad is the place to be when it’s nice out for Frisbee and football matches, outdoor classes, speakers, and graduation each May.
  • 'Relli's: An easier way to refer to Cascarelli's, a bar and restaurant in downtown Albion.
  • Tiers: The six floors of shelves in the library where all the bound periodicals are located. Rumored to be haunted, the tiers are full of secluded and sometimes hidden areas that are ideal for studying, or if you just want some privacy.
  • WLBN: The student-run radio station that can be heard on Channel 6 on the College's cable TV system.
Things I Wish I Knew Before Coming To School

  • Don’t be anti-social; it’s not worth it.

Great Science Center Facilities

The Science Center at Albion College is a huge benefit to anyone interested in working in any scientific field. The equipment is top of the line and the teachers are great. The science center is open 24 hours a day so it is a great place for late night study sessions.

Great Academics and Parties, Very Tough Though

The college is one of the best colleges academically in every category in this country. Everyone gets drunk all the time, but be careful. There are a lot of really shady and vengeful people who will turn on you in a second. Also the college is very greek and clicky like a high school. Everyone knows everyone and everything about each other. Truly this college will try to suck as much money out of you as it can. Since I have been here, the cost has increased 1-2k each year and I dont expect it to change. Also the college administration and board of trustees are a bunch of idiots that dont care about the students. They try to make our college lifes as s****y as possible.

Facts

Traditions
  • Black Squirrels: These furry friends are a special feature of Albion and are in abundance around campus.
  • Briton Bash: This event takes place at the beginning of the fall semester. At the Briton Bash, all the clubs and organizations set up booths on the Quad for students to sign up for new activities and enjoy a big picnic.
  • Day of Woden: Day of Woden takes place during the last week of classes second semester. The Dining Services move to the Quad for a huge picnic and the Union Board plans activities. In the past, well-known bands like Blessid Union of Souls and Less Than Jake have performed.
  • Drive-In Movie: Every fall, the Union Board sponsors a drive-in movie where they bring in a giant screen and speakers, and set it up in the Quad. Students bring blankets to snuggle up and enjoy the movie.
  • Festival of the Forks: The Festival got its name from the “forks” of the Kalamazoo River’s east and south branches, the site where Albion’s first residents settled. At the Festival, many countries and nationalities are recognized with their own booths featuring food and cultural items from that heritage.
  • The Io (pronounced “yo”): This is the abbreviation for “Io Triumphe,” a yell written by the Class of 1900. Some phrases were taken from other college yells, some from a Greek play that had been presented on campus during that period, and others were borrowed from the poems of the Roman writer, Horace.
  • The Rock: The Rock, at the northeast corner of the Quad, gets painted almost daily. Painting of the Rock usually is done in the dark of night, and it is a huge tradition.
Urban Legends Pretty much every building is haunted.
