College Prowler Take

The main deterrent to prospective students may be the size and state of the town of Albion. There’s not much to look at as the downtown area is pretty much limited to one street. Jackson, Marshall, and Battle Creek are more popular places to go. Perhaps it says something about the local atmosphere when students will drive a half-hour away to find something interesting to do.

However, once you’ve been at Albion for a while, you will start to see its charm. The town itself has a lot of surprising history behind it and a lot of interesting characters within it. It can be a little creepy at night, but so are most cities. Also, there’s no doubt that a lot of good friendships are made through the common boredom of living in Albion. Sometimes making your own fun is a lot more memorable than living in a big city.

The town is pretty small and not used by students as much as it should be. A lot of students don’t realize all of the great things about the town, like going for a drive through the country and discovering a one-room schoolhouse from the 1850s or finding a family cemetery from the turn of the century. There’s a lot of history here that’s fun to discover.

The town of Albion is poor in comparison to the College, and the town thrives on the College for income. The Bohm is a theater refurbished by the College, and it is free for students. It’s a fun place to go if you have free time. A lot of people also go to Cascarelli’s for Italian food and a few other restaurants. There are also gas stations, Goodwill, and the library. Be careful at night, though.

In regards to the town itself,...

In regards to the town itself, Albion is much more liberal than the school. Albion is a very poor city, and the ‘town-and-gown relationship’ is relatively poor, largely due to the campus administration.

I can’t really think of anything to stay away from. In the first few weeks of school, you should be able to figure out what you like and dislike. From there, you can figure out what it is that you’ll do for fun on campus.

Albion doesn’t really have many sights and sounds worth traveling to, though there is Victory Park and a quaint downtown that are at least fun to walk through every now and then. Albion is regarded as a ‘suitcase college’ by some. Fulfilling that name, Albion is located close to other colleges that you may get a greater kick out of visiting.
