Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Albion College is a residential college, and they take that seriously. The only part Residential Life plays in off-campus housing is handing over a two-page application with a look of disdain. Don’t bother asking them, or the College in general, for any help. In order to even be considered for off-campus housing, you need to provide a “legitimate” excuse with backup. For instance, if it’s for health reasons, they want a detailed note from your doctor. If it’s for financial reasons, they want documentation as proof of your financial situation.

The good news for future Albion students is that, as the College continues to accept more and more students into the school, room in on-campus housing is becoming scarce. Due to the lack of rooms and space, the College has recently become a bit more lenient toward allowing students to live off campus. It will hopefully continue to get easier as Albion’s student population grows.

Albion College's Off-Campus Life

Unfortunately, there aren't many available off-campus housing for Albion College. The administrators prefer to have the students to live on campus so they can ensure their safety. Fortunately, the campus is a comfortable size so that it isn't a burden when heading to class. This also allows for optimal student socialization. So despite for the lack of off-campus housing, Albion's normal campus life more than makes up for it.

Off-Campus Housing

All students are not allowed to live off-campus during the school years. There are a variety of choices: dorms, houses, apartments and annexes for on-campus housing, but they are fairly expensive than the off-campus housing. Students who want to remain at school over summer choose to live in off-campus housings, and find it so much cheaper to live off-campus. Yet, our dorms and on-campus housings are pretty nice, except that some halls such as Seaton Hall doesn't have enough heaters. Other than that, the halls are convenient, and safe (safe as in only on-campus), not off-campus. Finding an apartment or the whole house outside is much more cheaper especially if there are enough people to share the cost.

Here’s the rule of thumb: Albion...

Here’s the rule of thumb: Albion is a prison that doesn’t want you going off campus under any circumstance. They talk about off-campus living to get you to come, but that’s the same as school housing, except more expensive. And if you want a single at any point during your time at Albion, get a medical problem and your checkbook.
