The overall experience is alright. You either love Alfred or hate it.

Serious Students – Serious students will enjoy very good programs and very good professors. If you are passionate, there is a place for you there.
College Freshman 2012-07-25T01:07:22Z
Cheap and Close – There are a lot of places that are both close to campus and cheap. Alfred is small, and the rents are reasonable.
College Freshman 2012-07-25T01:04:14Z
Grad Student Access – The grad student access in the School Psych program is good. There are plenty available in a private lab.

Business School Isnt Boring – I am a marketing major, the school of business is always put off as an "easy" or "boring" sector but it is instead neither. With the combination of computer, old school chalk board lectures and group projects (and books of course) everything that you need to learn to pass tests and be successful is learned through different techniques so every piece of information from all of your classes sticks in your head. My goal is to work in advertising; becoming an innovator of worldwide well know adds for companies like Pepsi or Target. I believe you need to dream big to achieve big, along with working hard. There is always a concern for a future job, but being positive and relentlessly working hard to stand out pays off. I will not blend in with rest of the students, I strive to stand out and i know i can.

Usually Great – the computers are mostly all in pretty great condition though sometimes freeze up alot and the labs become crowded during midterms and finals and there definitely aren't enough available for the masses that want them

It's Something.. the food options are alright but very repetitive and it seems the price we pay for meals there should be more options of better quality. the food is generally cold or disgusting, and sometimes worse than what i was served in high school

Pretty Great – everybody who plays a sport here puts their whole heart into and there's a ton of school spirit everywhere you look, it's a lot different than high school
College Sophomore 2012-07-19T06:32:35Z
Could Be Better – there's a big need for cars in alfred if you want to get anywhere, other than the campus. there's a few parking lots but they generally seem to be pretty full and it seems students are constantly getting tickets, which may be the fault of the students, or the campus.

Alfred is a cute little town. Nana's is a great place to get authentic and affordable Japanese cuisine; it really is a jewel in Alfred. The town is neat and upbeat. Everything you need, you can get in town if you have to. There are two campuses in the small town of Alfred and it creates a clashing, yet unique, community. In terms of community, you will never be without a niche.

Guys & Girls:
A Unique and Friendly Environment – Its one of the only places where people will pass you on the sidewalk and the smile on their face is completely genuine. I love the variety of people at Alfred University. You can be friends with everyone and anyone. The majority of people are extremely fun and accepting. Alfred is a little community with great charm and personality. I love it.

Overall, I have a love affair with Alfred University. It is my home and I am proud to call it my school. However, the housing this year was hectic. Many upperclassman weren't given housing right away because Alfred simply did not have room for all of us! Additionally, the housing that is available for students is old. But rumor has it that they are doing renovations. But I hope they're done in time for me to enjoy them.

The dining hall food is awful. None of the food tastes any good and it seems like it gets worse every year. There is rarely any variety.

The selection of houses vary because its basically a first come first serve basis. All of the house/apartments and basically the same prices. The only difference is how the landlord is, there are good ones and bad ones. All of the houses are older houses that need a lot of work to be done to them but are livable.

Students from both Alfred University and Alfred State make up most of the community. There are few places in town to do anything, they are mostly restaurants, banks, or mini marts. However every year Alfred holds a community event called "Hot Dog Day". At this event main street is filled with street vendors and there are many activities to participate in. There is a small carnival set up and a parade that runs through main street.

Fan Support – The Alfred University football team has the greatest amount of fan support. The stands are always filled with students, parents, and community members. Other than football there are not too many other popular sporting events. Basketball games fill up once in awhile, but that is about it.

Mostly White, Non-Religious – mostly white, difficult for a moderately religious student

Very few things to do in town, a drive to nearest city, means bored rowdy college students

Health & Safety:
Totally Useless – All they do is give you aspirin and never schedule appointments at nearby clinics!
College Junior 2012-05-09T03:04:46Z
Far Far Away – The only spots even remotely convenient are reserved for faculty and RA's
College Junior 2012-05-09T03:02:32Z
One Club and Lame Parties – The only clubs and bar in town are filled with drunk bums

Pretty Great! I have always had a really good relationship with financial aid. I have gotten very good packages every year and they are always willing to help when I am in a pinch with needing more aid!

Pretty Average – The food at Alfred University is pretty average and sometimes you have to eat at Nana's or the Jet for a little variety and both places are off campus.

Alfred is a small rural town in WNY, on the surface it may look boring, or like there are not enough things to do in town, DON'T BE FOOLED!! Alfred is a place about community and making friends with new people and having fun doing whatever!

I'm an out of state student and received a good amount of financial aid. I would suggest good grades or good portfolio, but there is also a special financial aid program for inner city students and local kids, as the school is located in the poorest county in the state. They are very understanding and make tuition affordable.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
