Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Team sports take on an interesting dimension here at school, one that emphasizes the individual. Here sports seem to be more about participation than competition. Attendance at sporting events varies depending on the day. As the University sees increased and more diverse enrollment, however, team sports are improving. An estimated one in five undergrads take part in our 20 NCAA Division III varsity sports, and half of our students play either intramural or club sports.

The Saxons’ varsity sports teams compete as a member of the Empire Eight Athletic Conference, which competes against Elmira College, Hartwick College, Ithaca College, Nazareth College, Rochester Institute of Technology, St. John Fisher College, and Utica College. Our men’s swim team recently blew away their division championship and our ski and equestrian programs are nationally ranked. The soccer, basketball, lacrosse, and softball teams usually advance to the NCAA Division III championships, and then, well, getting there is half the battle!

No Idea

I don't really know much about sports here because I'm not really involved with them. We do have a pretty good football team, but we're in a low district. Also we have an equestrian team, which is a draw, but I don't know about anything else. I guess there is a dojo in town. I got an Orange belt in Karate.

Sports Are Social

Sports other than football are pretty sparsely attended but they have taken the place of greek life on campus so most of the parties are put on by a team or group of people from a team. Everyone knows the athletes but not a whole lot of support.

Club Sports

Many people do not have time to be on a divison team and though they may enjoy watching thier teams compete they still would perferr to be in the action. Alfred Universty has a club sport for every true team they have and even club sports for teams they dont have. These club sports are very easy to get into and work well in a busy scheduale. They are also a great way to stay in shape and meet some new friends.
