I literally blinked through Alfred the first time I came; however, dining options are surprisingly varied in this small town. The Collegiate Restaurant (“the Jet” for short) is only open until 8 p.m., but feels like an all-night diner. Nana’s eatery serves Japanese delights for an American palette. They serve a different bento lunch for every day of the week, specially made by Nanako herself. Café Za offers the taste of expensive New York dining for a fraction of the cost, and it serves personal pan pizzas until midnight. Since there’s not much else to do in Alfred, students take a great deal of time and pleasure in eating.

Best Places to Check Out

Alfred is a very small town but it still does try to offer a lot to it's students. We've got Nana's Japanese, Fox's Pizza, The Collegiate (the Jet), Terra Cotta Coffee House, Panda Chinese Food, Hot Diggity Dog, Uncle Alfred's Sub Shop, and B.B. Shenanigans, All are priced reasonably and decent food.

Off Campus Food Options

The food is good. I think it is average priced. It would be nice to have a grocery store closer. Or a pharmacy that is open on the weekends. There are no student discounts.

Community Yummies

There is a wide variety of off-campus dining in Alfred. There is a fantastic grocery shop called Kinfolk, that is locally owned and is always freshly stocked with organic fruits and vegetables, spices, nice breads, and a wide range of healthy cooking ingredients. There is a nice coffee shop and a dinner that are great to bring friends and family to. At night Chinese food is a popular choice, and Cafe Za is always a good choice for a beverage and a nice meal/snack.
