Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

At Allegheny, if you are only friends with people who are very anti-drug, you’ll never see or hear anything about drugs on campus. But, if you are friends with a lot of different kinds of people and go to a bunch of parties, you’ll realize just how many people smoke pot and even how many people use harder drugs. If you happen to be looking for drugs on campus, you can find whatever you are looking for.

Drugs tend to travel only in certain circles, so if you stay out of those circles, you won’t see them. Also, peer pressure is relatively low with drugs, but if you're at a party with an open keg, you'll be expected to have a red Solo cup in hand. Security rarely busts parties and rarely stops students unless they're making some sort of scene or destroying property. Parties thrown by Greeks and athletes usually have two or three kegs tapped out by the end of the night. Weed use is rampant in off-campus houses, but first-year students wouldn't know unless they went around looking and asking. Ultimately, the rigor of Allegheny coursework keeps people from doing drugs too regularly, and those who try to maintain their drug habit instead of schoolwork will likely drop out.

Drugs

Even though the school pushes these things under the rug , prescription drugs such as Ritalin and Adderall are widely abused on campus as is cocaine. So, if you get caught with drugs at school, don't worry, the school is too embarrassed by it to actually punish you or admit it.

It's College, It Happens

No matter where you go to school, there is drinking and drug use involved. Allegheny is no different. Parties are usually private, but, if you go to one that is open, you do not have to drink. People may offer you something but you can just refuse it. No one will pressure you to drink or smoke, and no one will be offended. Whether you want to drink or smoke, it is totally up to you.

Campus security does not usually bust parties and neither will Meadville police. In the past two years, alcohol poisoning has become in issue. Some students have not been using safely or smartly. It is not because they were forced to drink themselves sick, but because they were not drinking responsibly. Upon enrolling, everyone has to take an online course about drug safety. Therefore, people are not getting alcohol poisoning because they are ignorant.

A Little Is Enough

There is a little bit of drug activity, but it is minimal. You are going to find some drugs on any College Campus, but on Allegheny it is barely noticeable.
