Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

For a small town, Meadville has many off-campus eating options, with every kind of fast food imaginable and chain restaurants ranging from Perkins to Red Lobster. Then, there are the real cornerstones of any Meadvillian dining experience—the independently-owned-and-operated restaurants. Restaurants like Compadres, Julian’s, the Whole Darn Thing Sub Shop, and the Creative Crust Bakery are by far the best eateries in town, and they are surprisingly cheap, especially compared to the on-campus food options. On top of the cheaper prices, many local restaurants offer Allegheny students a 10-percent discount. Students that never go off campus will miss out on these treasures.

Compadres is the only Mexican food in town, but it is incredibly authentic. The Artist Cup Café is a popular place to study and catch a live band or poetry reading. There are no Indian, Thai, French, or other foreign restaurants in town, which can be disappointing. This causes a lot of students to drive to Erie to find food that’s unavailable in Meadville. In general, though, dining in Meadville is a really positive experience.

The Market House

Great place to go if you do not have a car. It is only a 15 minute walk from campus, fairly cheap ($10-$15 per person), and serves a variety of American food. Connected to an organic foodstore, The Market House is both a local resturaunt and grocerer.

No Off-Campus Dining Offered

It's a sad but true fact that Allegheny doesn't offer off-campus dining as a part of their meal plan, but there are many close-by fast food restaurants and local restaurants that are reasonably priced just downtown from campus. Some offer student discounts and on the first Friday of every month, local restaurants will stay open later so students can go to them. I personally love the local restaurants- Grace for exotic food, Markethouse for breakfast, and Creative Crust for the best pizza!

Food

I don't usually eat off campus but I do pass by most of the restaurants on my way to Walmart or back home. I know of a McDonald's, Long John Silver, Five Guys, Pizza Hut, Hoss's, Cracker Barrel, Perkin's, Red Lobster, Grace's Asian food, Applebee's,a few other places that I do not remember the names of, and even the movie theatre if you love popcorn that much.
