I am applying for the nursin program in the spring and couldn't be more excited. Most of our clinical hours will take place in the hospital, Alpena Regional Medical Center. I have heard some of the long hours of work and class load but I haven't heard one of them say it's not worth it.

There aren't many career options that could just be obtained from this college. Many will have to transfer. the classes now aren't too heavy on the work load. I played a sport in the fall and was still receiving A's in my classes.

With this small community college there is a lot of time for one on one assistance if necessary and the teachers use it well. They have many open office hours if any question need to be answered. We also have a student center where you can get extra help. The library is mostly alway accessible and user friendly along with the open computer labs with free printing. There are not a lot of sport teams so the gym is almost always empty for whatever activities. Next to the gym is a workout room for the students use.

The school does provide free wifi. However, the network is quite slow with everyone trying to access it. In the computers labs they have a direct line so they are speedy and user friendly. Printing is free in the student center and opened for our convenience.

I would choose to do it all over just because I got a scholarship here through sports. That was the only money I was offered. I had to take it I had no choice. Really Alpena is not all that terrible. It is just a little boring because there is never anythin to do.
College Junior 2013-12-03T16:10:12Z
I have not yet had to take an online course through Alpena. However, I have heard stories on these courses. I believe it depends on the class you have enrolled in because many say they are a breeze yet numerous will state that they have learned nothing and are failin all the exams because of a lack of knowledge.

Alpena is also great in this aspect. They have on their website a place to schedule and rearrange classes as you wish. However if you miss the early registration deadline it can be tricky to fit you in the classes you want. However, I am usually early to schedule and I never yet have had an issues findin a time to fit my classes in.

Alpena does do a great job with actively keeping the students informed on universities that they may enroll in to further there degree. They have bulletin boards posted up around the school with different universities and often may times I see that thy actually have college representatives come in to talk one on one with the students. Another great example of Alpena being great at this is they set up free tours with the students to go visit the college they want, all expenses paid.

The diversity at this college is merely existant. Yes, it is a community college but the school itself is boring with barely anything to do. Everytime I see students they are quietly huddled in the corner, minding there phones or books. I wish there was more to do. I did get a job at the bookstore so it is time to save up enough money to move on from the community college experience.

The professor/student relationship is amazing. They are willing to help you, and not shove you away to the tutoring center. They make the classes lively and fun, along with teaching you outside things that can prove useful in your field of study.

The availability of free wi-fi is very poor, sometimes you can be waiting up to fifteen minutes for one page to load up. Computers are readily available to the students in the library. With printing, the first ten pages are free, but after that you have to pay a fee. The extra fee is really reasonable.

The resources aren't too bad. There is a small athletic center, but sometimes it gets filled up pretty quickly. They have lounge rooms for student to relax and interact with other people. There aren't very many clubs and activity events here. Though, they do hold a lot of beneficial seminars ranging from how to take good notes and getting over test anxiety.

The student services program is phenominal! Their library isn't short of not too shabby either.

Picking the wide range of classes was very convienient when it came to scheduling. I was able to pick all my classes around my work schedule, and was even able to get a job from the school, tutoring. The learning environment is very encouraging and the teachers a very likable. The small class sizes allows them to be able to help the students one on one, and you are more than just a student number to them.

Tuition & Financial Aid:
I have not used any financial aid so far. I have observed many people being able to get aid.

Great class sizes. The professors are well studied and people oriented. For Biology I will transfer. The options are quite varied, so any place I want to go is possible!

The classes I took had two or three different times available. Because of this I was able to work and ride with other people. My advisor helped me plan classes and begin plans to transfer in a very short time.

The professors are very interested in seeing each student learn. They bring the real world into the class room. The campus is spread out so you get a little bit of a walk between classes. Everyone is friendly and the staff are always trying to help.

There are some students here just to receive the financial aid checks. However, most are hard working. I was mostly math science, and that department is on par with any university, as is the work ethic of students there. Most are traditional, white students, but there are a few Russians, one Brit and a handful of different ethnicities. Most students work 20-30 hours a week on average.

My program of study has a job posting board mainly for Michigan, but all over the US. The job that I have now is through the school, and for my interview, the company drove 6 hours to interview me in person, on campus. I was also employed at the Student Services Center as a tutor and note taker, which I enjoyed very much. You can be a tutor even if you don't receive financial aid, which is nice also.

Our school is a little community college but it offers a lot of degrees that some other community colleges don't which make it stand out more.

Most people at my school are very focused on getting into a larger college or university, so they really dont focus on their social life and are not too open to meeting new people.

They are currently re designing the top floor. It is a nice campus

I believe it is what is of expected at any college. They expect you to work around there schedule when it comes to classes. However they will work around greatly when it comes to student resources.

A typical student at ACC is attending the school to transfer to another college or university. ACC is a great starting point.
