Milwaukee has an array of restaurants, and if there is something you are craving, you will find it. Because Milwaukee is a dairy state, there are lots of custard or ice cream shops. Milwaukee also has its share of classic American food, like hamburgers, steaks, and fries. However, there are all kinds of ethnic restaurants ranging from Indian to Mexican to Thai. Wherever you are in Milwaukee, you will find a great place to eat, and sometimes the best places to eat are small hole-in-the-wall spots. Milwaukee, like every other city in the United States, has its share of fast food restaurants and chain restaurants.

Alverno students eat a lot on 27th Street because it is so close to campus, and the food is relatively cheap and easy to grab between classes or with friends on weekends. A lot of students eat off campus to either supplement their meal plans or just to get something out of the norm. However, there are also expensive, top-of-the-line restaurants for a special night out, as well. There is a good mix of foods, restaurants, and price ranges all over the city. If you want it, it is somewhere out there.

The food is expensive. There are not many student discount in the campus. One of the best places is The Mug.

Bayview Area Is Close

The closest things to campus are some chain restaurants and fast food places. A quick drive, bike ride, or bus ride away is the city of Bayview which has many more options. My favorites are Honeypie and Pastiche. Milwaukee is really getting into the local slow food movement so the ingredients are always fresh and delicious!

Wisconsin is known as the “Cheese State,” and the majority of foods at restaurants in Milwaukee have cheese in them or give you the option of adding cheese.

Milwaukee is also known for its beer, so there are specialty foods that are either beer-battered or baked in beer. There are plenty of restaurants/breweries around Milwaukee. A lot of Milwaukee’s history is based on the Pabst, Blatz, and Miller breweries.
