Diversity on Campus

I love my school because there are so many different kinds of people. We have a lot of people studying at my school who come from other areas in the world and these do not include those who are studying abroad at Alverno. Everyone feels welcome because no one stands out as being different from everyone else; this is because everyone is different from their peers. I love it.

Off Campus Dining

Chilli's, Culvers, Noodles, Leons, Einstein Bagels, taco bell, McDonalds, Subway, IHOP. There are foods from all different parts of the world and I have options if Im spending 3 dollars or 35. Its a little farther than walking distance but it is well worth the short drive.

Sports are not very big on campus

Sports are not very big on campus because there are so many non-traditional, commuter students. Alverno students are more focused on their academics and that's what the school is known for.

Security is great on campus

Security is great on campus. They are very sociable and visible throughout campus. It is a small campus so most everyone knows how to get a hold of them. There are emergency light/phones in our parking structure and around campus. If security needs to respond to non-emergency situations, they usually won’t be very quick, but they are very available in emergency situations, whether it is a personal or medical emergency.

Milwaukee is a college town

Milwaukee is a college town with a variety of different universities and a downtown atmosphere like nothing I’ve ever experienced. I believe that Milwaukee is a beautiful community – although as in any big city you have to be careful.

I've always loved Milwaukee

Since I'm from this area of Milwaukee, I might be a little biased, but I've always loved it. It's close enough to the suburbs that you don't have some of the problems that schools smack dab in the middle of cities have, and close enough to freeway access to get you pretty much anywhere you want to go pretty quickly - including UW-Milwaukee, and Marquette University, both of which are downtown and about fifteen minutes away.

The teachers are an interesting bunch

The teachers are an interesting bunch. Being a smaller college, you can really get to know the professors in your major quite well, not only their teaching style but also as real people. What's really great is that if you find a topic of special interest, you can do an independent study with a professor, which allows you to tailor parts of your learning to your needs and interests.

Open communication with instructors

The instructors at Alverno College are great for the most part. I love the one on one attention you get from the teachers at Alverno because it makes you feel like you are more than just a number or just another student. It is a very home like atmosphere throughout the entire college. I have never felt that I could not seek extra help from an instructor nor have I ever felt intimidated by an instructor.

Approachable and welcoming teachers

The approachable and welcoming teachers are what led me to choose Alverno College over the five other colleges I toured. Upon arriving for my tour of Alverno, I was instantly invited to sit and eat lunch with a few of the philosophy professors, and within a half hour found out that we both grew up in Evanston and loved the Cubbies. This initial open communication led to wonderful relationships in and out of class, and allowed me to feel comfortable in the classrooms instantly.

Phenomenal faculty

We have phenomenal faculty. Despite being a smaller school and thus having fewer faculty, we have well educated and student focused faculty. This is not like other institutions where the faculty are there for research opportunities and mange the pesky teaching responsibilities by delegating to teaching assistants. In addition, the faculty typically make time to assist students in personal projects and interests. This is particularly impressive when it comes to part time faculty.

The teachers are absolutely amazing!

The teachers are absolutely amazing! They know YOU for YOU and how you are as an individual. Not only do they make learning interesting, they make you WANT to learn and be the best that you can. They won’t settle for anything less than your best. They care about what is going on in your personal life – your achievements and worries. To me, I believe that the teachers at Alverno are more than “just teachers”- they are wonderful role models and amazing people.

Instructors are all unique and worldly

The instructors at Alverno are all unique and worldly. Many of the instructors I have had bring a lot of current events and are up on their information. They bring their personalities to the classroom so that the lectures aren’t so boring.

The professors are kind, understanding, and helpful

The professors at Alverno College happen to be some of the most kind, understanding and helpful individuals I have ever had the pleasure to meet. I have never had a question that couldn’t be answered or an issue with an assignment that they weren’t happy to help me figure out. I love that I can call my professors by their first names and they call me the same. I’m not just a number – I am an individual and I find that to be very beneficial towards my education.

Teachers are basically amazing

The teachers are basically amazing. I know when I walk into each and every class that the only agenda my teachers have is to benefit my development as a student. I know so many of my teachers and they know me, there are relationships and connections being made, we are like an awesome super functioning community of learners.

The teachers are simply wonderful

The teachers are simply wonderful here at Alverno. They love to help us succeed and reach our goals. In order to achieve our goals they help us by always being available. What I mean by availability is that the teachers give us their emails, cell phone number, home phone number, and a list of office hours for us to use if we are stuck on a paper, have a question about a deadline or even if we just want to get to know each other better. Ultimately the teachers help us reach our greatest potential.

Library

The librarians are always ready to help you. They love helping students with research and all are very kind.

Not Just a College, but a Community

Alverno is a Women's liberal arts college where only 200 students live on campus and the rest commute from the local areas. Basically, if you are looking for a traditional party school, you are in the wrong place. Yet just because there are no boys, and you are guaranteed to always have more homework than friends at other schools doesn't mean you should knock Alverno off the list. Alverno's small class sizes and unique ability based curriculum means more opportunities to get feedback from professors and have deep discussions with your peers. While the work load can seem intimidating it is managable and evenly spread out across the semester instead of coming to bite you at the end like other Universities. Being involved in the classroom really makes you feel like part of a community, and all the places to hang out and free weekly activities really make you feel at home.

Alverno College: Guys & Girls

I have yet to attend Alverno. However from what I heard and seen during open house, everyone is kind, joyful and proud to attending Alverno.

World Wide

Alverno is a very diverse place, they actually strive in a way to have a lot of diversity in the school. they link up with other countries, and have a lot of exchange students come visit Alverno, and vise-versa. this school is very diverse and as soon as you step in a classroom you see that right away.

Great

Alverno has a lot of places were the students can park. The spaces are quite big so there is always a spot open for anyone who wants to park. I think that the only times were parking issues arise is in the beginning of the semester and when there are events happening on campus, other than that its great.

Friendly-Mostly

Alverno is an all girls school, so technically there is no way for me to compare girls and guys in school. I personally think that the girls in school may be in the middle, some are really nice and say hi! down the hall. Others really do not care an just go about with there regular days. Over all I think that the girls at Alverno are okay, they try there best and mostly they are more focused in getting all their work done so that they can graduate in time.

Food Great at Alverno

There are so many different food options at Alverno and many places to eat. The cooked meals are like mom's and the grilled options are excellent. There are also many options for health-conscious people and vegetarians.

Cultural Mecca

Alverno atmosphere includes lots of on campus activities from sports, art, theater & dance to lots of volunteer activities. Close enough to shopping and within miles of shopping centers, fitness locations (including on campus) and a short bus ride from Milwaukee's downtown area and lakefront. Summer is filled with various charity walks, educational seminars and cultural festivals, including SummerFest - the largest concert series nationwide.

Greek Life

Im not into the Greek life here. We don't have much of a variety with the greek life. If we had sorirty's that I was interested in here, I would pledge

Academics

There are many oppurtunities avaliable here at Alverno. Most proffessors are understandable, the cirriculum is different than any other school, the workload is appropriate and there are many special stufy options. the most popular are of stufy here is nursing.
