This school offers the ability to be a tripple threat, however, I feel that based on my major, the school doesn't offer as many dance or singing classes as I would have hoped. The acting classes are intense and hands on, the professors have an emotional connection to each and every student somehow, plays and shows are always well staged and rehearsed, and workload isn't overwhelming. Over all, I thouroughly love this school and what it has to offer.

Tuition & Financial Aid:
Communication is lacking when it comes to tuition and financial aid. The school is very expensive because it is a private arts college, but sometimes I feel that the amount of money I am paying is not worth the hassle of dealing with the financial aid department. It is a headache for many students to figure out how they are paying for each semester and the aid department does little to help them figure out how they can fix the situation and many students end up leaving.

They begin to help you with what life will be like once you graduate, but when you graduate it is not the school but the teachers that will help you find work and make connections.

I am a Musical Theatre Major and I feel that many of the classes and environment at AMDA is NOT what was pitched to students at the beginning. I feel let down by housing, financial aid, and the english department in terms of helpfulness.

You dont get the luxury of picking your class. Those are pre-set for you. And they range from 8 am to 5 pm. But you do get to choose your electives which are from 5:30 pm to 11 pm. And I am fine with that because many alumnis have been successful following the same process, I am willing to do the same.

I am a musical theatre major and I love everything about it. Every class challenges my ability in creative ways. Teaching me new ways to approach and solve problems. The classes are demanding and sometimes intimidating but that is what i love about it. Helps me think on my feet.

Tuition & Financial Aid:
I think that for what i am paying for this school that i am getting my moneys worth although sometimes i wonder why we dont have nicer things considering the school is so darn expensive! There tends to be a lot of trouble off and on with financial aid. Although that is mostly what i hear through the grape vine. As far as me, i got some scholarships from the school and a big chunk of financial aid. So i think over all , its all about getting the work done and applying for all the right things.

The Library is PACKED with nearly everything you will need for class. and because of the great location, Lincoln Center and A Public Library are all less than 5 blocks away from the school campus. A lot of information is also easily found online. There are discounted offers we get for local gyms for being amda students. You can keep your hands busy by voulenteering or even working at one of our many showcases (free for students to attend), also we get a lot of deals and discounts for Broadway and Off Broadway Shows!

well honestly i'm a first semester and i haven't had much experience but i can say that the teachers are very good so far. dancing classes are great but you muussttt practice or it WILL show. same in the other classes there is a lot of preparation. its stressful and its not like a regular college where you can hang out much because you basically have to devote yourself to your craft. in the classroom it is obvious who teachers "like" most of the time so u basically have to deal with that and make the best of it until the semester's over.. changing that is out of your hands. sad but, eh .

The faculty is amazing. they truly want you to do your best, and they want to see you succeed! The program is really well rounded in singing, dancing and acting, which was something I was definitely looking for when researching college programs. The library is so extensive, it's absolutely amazing! Any song you could ever want to perform is probably in the library for you to purchase for an extremely reasonable price.

Because the school is based on a conservatory system, the majority of your schedule is scheduled for you. You are given options as to which courses you would like to take to fulfill the requirements, but as to scheduling these courses, you really don't have much say.

There are SO many performance opportunities at the LA campus! From mainstage productions to student directed/produced productions, small blackbox to intimate cafe(caberet like) shows. The music library is an AMAZING resource!

my school is very good when it comes to the teachers and staff. there is no doubt that you are getting your money's worth in the class room. when it comes to working with the other students however is where it gets a little shaky. not everyone can work very well together and that's the only negative i really see about my school. your grade can come down if the group is bad. you are only as strong as your weakest link. so it takes a lot of hard work and dedication. also there is no meal plan and the food that is available is a bit too pricey. and seeing how we don't have much time in-between classes, you're kinda stuck with it.

Tuition & Financial Aid:
I am going to graduate in 5 months and still do not have a lot of my financial issues resolved and the staff at the school has barely met me half way with fixing these issues.

My school is full of talented young artists and the only reason this grade has a minus on it is for that exact reason. About two thirds of them are very young. As a person in her early 20's I thought I would be about the same age as most students at AMDA but I was mistaken. Most are fresh out of high school while I have already attended some college and moved away from home years ago. Because these students are fresh from high school many of them are just learning how to be responsible with their time and money which makes them difficult to work with sometimes. And while many of them are mature there are quite a few who are not ready to really dedicate themselves to this careers demands and are incapable of taking critic or direction from our teachers. Many will graduate with fantastic skills and honed talent but will not be taken seriously the theater world till they grow into a more responsible adult.

At AMDA LA, there is a complete mix of every type of person you could imagine. That is Los Angeles. People from every race are here, all sexual orientations, with no discrimination. We have international students, some from the UK, Australia, even Scotland and Ireland. We have on campus Bible Chats and a student led Gospel Choir for those with a connection to God, and all are welcome, again no discrimination. Everything is Equal Opportunity, a lot of blind Casting and a good mix. The only rivalry on campus come in as a kind of Sport between the majors Acting VS. Musical Theatre VS. Dance, that isn't to say that you don't get along with all of the above, I have many friends in all of the majors.

When it comes to the teachers and what you are learning, there is no doubt that you are getting the best education possible. Being an acting major your hope is to get into the world and work. When you teacher has to call in a sub because they are out on location shooting somewhere, or when your teacher walks in and tells you that they are currently reoccurring on three different TV shows and in a theater group, and you get to see their show, or your flipping through channels and a teacher shows up in a commercial, and gets you to do some work, it is safe to say that you are getting a great and first hand knowledge of what it is like to be in the business.

AMDA always gave us free back stages every Thursday! And always had postings on the bulletin boards about job opportunities. Now, wether we get up and get out there, is our digression. This career field isn't easy! Performers through the entire world are looking for a way through like the rest of us.

Mostly, AMDA NY consists of working-class people. Some of my friends always had jobs wether it was outside of school or in the school store. AMDA is extremely diverse, and like any other school you'll have your "cliques" or types of people you'll favor based on interests, but nothing bad because we all got along at the end because we shared the same passion for the arts!

I am learning so much about musical theater (what i came here for), interacting with others, the business, and myself as a performer. It's a lot of work that needs to be put in to be successful.

Campus Is alright. It looks and feels like a Performing arts school! :D

The school's flexibility is pretty great, from job to extracurricular classes. I am able to have a full time job through the school and still attend two extra curricular classes a week.

Because the school began as a conservatory there is little setting of your own schedule. But the positive to that is the fact that you do not have to worry about getting into the right classes or taking the right courses. AMDA guarentees a schedule with your necessary classes, and will allow elective courses depending on the required course and what classes will fulfill the requirements.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
