I wasn't too sure about online courses at first but after taking a couple at American River College, I found online courses interesting and different from traditional classroom courses. They do require more studying and reading because the lectures in the classroom are covered online through more reading material. It did take more dedication on my part, making sure to complete work by deadlines. Just because it is online doesn't make passing the course easier. I had to learn how to manage my time especially since I had classes on campus also. The good part is that you don't have professors telling you what is due, or that you can't come in to class because you are late. It is a different way of learning but I managed to stay on top of assignments and complete my work on time. It can be quite challenging at times but self-discipline is important for success. I prefer the traditional classroom environment over online courses even though I did well in it.

The on campus daycare program. I am a grand-foster parent and it is excellent to be able to attend college and have the children provided for as well.

The curriculum fits the objectives. The registration process is good. But I disagree with the new change coming. Students who are juniors and seniors should have first priority not new comers. They haven't earned so to speak their badge to be first.

I don't necessarily agree with having to take some of the electives. They have nothing in common with my major. I don't also like having to take repeated classes I took in High school just to transfer to a university. Example history classes, and P.E. They have nothing to do with my major.

This school rating has gone done due to the following reasons.
When I first enrolled as a re-entry student resources and support was available. Now because of the weak economy and "everyone" is back in school it is impossible to get the support needed.

I really cant say i enjoyed the school much, but it served its purpose getting me my GE and AA and i can finally now transfer out to a 4 year college.

In all honesty i really don't know, most students either receive the certificate they wanted, graduate, or transfer.

All the Professors that Ive taken all want you to succeed, and they always are up front with you about what they expect you to be able to do and handle. Unfortunately a fair amount of students are only "here" to get financial aid and a few drop out of class midway through the semester making it rather daunting. class registration is fairly easy and can be done online, but please talk to a counselor so they can help with your needs.

I think this school has alot of great resourses. I would say all there science classes are pretty well equiped with materials. The library is fantastic and the tuturing programs they have are wonderful. Overall I think this campus has every resource one needs for there programs of study.

I have heard they have a great career program here however I have not taken any of them. I think I am going to try a PG&E class they have here for veterns though to help me finish my degree in Engineering.

I thik this school is a great instatution and gives many people chances they would not have with out this campus. They have many classes at night for people who work during the day. I work security at night so I attend all the day classes. It is a wonderful school. All I had before this school was the US army. They gave me 4 Units for serving under my life understanding skills. Overall I think this is a great campus.

Tuition & Financial Aid:
Sometimes it takes them forever to process your info. I got help last semester. But this semester I am still trying to figure it out.

Keep Track of Work – I did not really know what to expect but once I got in it was not too hard. Except you have to always be on track and know when what is due.

School Is Cool, as Long as I'm There and Fun – It is really awesome making new friends on campus and running into old ones. i like the tutoring and resources. The counselors are great at what they do and the instructors are wonderful. This is such an amazing time.

Spotty Services – There are not nearly enough computers in the library but if you can snag one they work well and so do the printers/copiers. The wi-fi is great in the library but REALLY spotty throughout the entire campus and if it works it's more than slow.

I don't care for the school but the teachers aren't bad and I am doing really well so I can't really complain.

The counselling center is terrible and it extremely hard to get in the classes you want and need. The teachers are fairly great and helpful, I have had a few terrible ones but the really awesome ones make up for it.

Tuition & Financial Aid:
The financial aid office is never available by phone for even the simplest question. They put everyone on academic dismissal and when the pile got to high they denied everyone that they hadn't gotten to by the dead line. The people who rotate into the front desk rarely have useful information and the website is vague and utterly unhelpful.

They Don't Offer Much – AR has the "AR Shuttle Bus" which is an SUV that will take you to your car when it rains or at night when it gets super sketchy, but that's pretty much all they offer. Parking sucks and they give the teachers the best spots, which is fine but they give them way more spots than they need.
College Senior 2012-09-11T01:15:36Z
Lazy Sometimes – I feel like a lot of the kids who go to AR are only there for the financial aid. Some of them are there to transfer to a four year university but I also feel that there are a lot of very immature people and a ton of loud people. Students can be seen being disrespectful to teachers and it's quite astonishing.

The network isn't too bad though it sometimes shuts down during school hours which makes it very inconvenient. There are many places to use computers and printers and there's always free WiFi on campus if you have a student ID. The WiFi can be hard to connect to but isn't all that slow.
College Senior 2012-09-11T01:08:47Z
Library and Computers – The library at AR is always open to lending out books and even laptops. They'll even lend you a textbook for your class for a few hours to get some homework done. They have many computers available to use in the homework and many printers with which to print things for only 10 cents. The staff is very nice and very helpful.
