The portal to the online courses can be a bit cumbersome but they are working on getting a better system in place. I personally really enjoy the online hybrid classes that are offered. 5 courses, 1 book, real tutors able to help all the time. The staff are great, the tutors knowledgeable, the course comprehensive so no one gets left wondering just what the heck we do with that fraction.

This school has a flexible class schedule. For those, working day time jobs, a lot of evening classes are available and vice verse. There is a number of online classes available.

The learning resources for students are great. There is a big student center on campus with plenty of computers available and staff willing to help. The computer lab is open to students who are enrolled in certain classes. There they can use the software required for their classes.

American River, Being a community college, has its pluses and minuses. It is almost imposible to get into teh counseling department, and so far I have felt lost and wasting a ton of time due to the lack of information and help available to me. A good thing about this school is they do have a good selection of evening classes for those who have to work during the day like myself.

Tuition & Financial Aid:
IF you're an resident of CA the prices for classes are basically the same across the board; however, with these new financial aid stipulations that have been enforced by the government, you'd better be serious about your education. They only give you a total of 72 attempted units to complete your degree before you have to petition for financial aid.

While there are many resources for students on campus, there isn't much marketing on these services, so for the first time student, they may feel a little bit lost; however, if you simply ask for help from the staff, they will guide you to the department that can help you.

There are plenty of duplicate courses so usually, if you're serious about your academics, finding classes that fit your desired schedule is pretty easy. If you can't find the courses at American River College there are three other campuses connected to the Los Rios district that will be able to assist you.

I took one online course and it was pretty good. They also have hybrid classes and that kind of teaching works for me. I have taken three classes like that and I am going to take a fourth one during fall. You basically study on your own and receive lectures and the exam are on campus.

The facilities are good, I wish we had a gym that students could attend free of charge. The restroom are kinda dirty, but that is for the huge amount of students that use them, and I can tell the personal do not clean them well either.

Tuition & Financial Aid:
It is not expensive, and they have a program called BOG that will waive you from the fees as long as you are a good students and demostrate financial aid.

It is okay. I was in a class last semester where the campus network had no reach. But Wi Fi is available at the cafeteria and places close to that place.

The resources are great at ARC. For the struggling students there are science resource centers, tutoring services and Beacon services, everything free of charge and available to any student that seeks help.
We have a new cafeteria with subway, starbucks and so forth. The library is not really well equipped, the do not have the books that are often required for classes and they close at 10:00pm. I wish they had a 24hrs library.

Students at ARC are from lower middle class, to high middle class. Many students are full time students, that are pursuing future studies in engineering, medical school, and psychology. There a lot of good science students that are dedicated, and many students are there only for financial aid. The latter category are found usually in the lower math and english classes.

I am a computer engineering major at American River College. My experiences with my professors have been great. My schedule is always packed with math, physics, computer science, and general education courses with a heavy workload. The facilities are not to be the best, as can be expected from a community college, but it does provide a place to learn and gain knowledge. I know I am able to get any internship or job that I am interested in with the help of the awesome career center.

I enjoy my experience at ARC, which is why I continue going their. Most professors are great, with a real passion for teaching and helping others. The workload is manageable and they have free tutoring all over campus with long hours. The only thing that could use some updating is the registration process. Appointments are definitely the way to go, but even those are hard to schedule at times.

I',m an art major. I am learning to become a master glass blower. I am earning my general ed and some units for my degree here at ARC. I LOVE being an art student here. I get asked lots of questions about the projects I carry around (there are lockers to use if you want one) and the classes are always filled with a variety of people and age groups. The faculty is all wonderful, with a serious passion for the arts.

I enjoy the format of the online courses. Very easy for me to follow. I enjoy the availability of going to class when I want, but also having a deadline of assignments to keep me motivated. The registration process is easy. We meet up one time at one the first day of class, and any questions are answered in person about registering. After that, email is that way of communication. As long as you have a teacher who checks email often, communication is usually better than the traditional classroom experience in my opinion.

Able to work with teachers if you disagree abut a grade or believe the teacher may have missed something.

There are many resources available at this school that can assist in academic success.

my school is quite organized with some mishaps but the staff is very helpful and works well to make you happy.

Honestly it really does depend on the person. If you are great at working on your own and self- driven, like myself, then it's the perfect class. I personally can do great both online and in class. It depends on the teacher to be involved as well. Some teachers are great at replying to questions quickly, and some are slower or non-responsive, which would be bad if it's an online course. I would recommend checking about the teacher who will be doing the online course first before taking the class. The features are pretty unique to a certain degree, i guess. The workload depends on the teacher as well, but i've always found homework and tests easier because it's not in the quiet of the class, which never really does the job for me. The registration is very simple and easy, though some teachers require you put your image and introduce yourself, which is simple but takes a little more time. Student teacher/peer to peer interaction is different too, you don't see the people, but you communicate through critique of works. I've had good experience overall in online courses.

I normally would only need a computer if i was in a waitlist in a class and got in and needed a computer for that certain computer required class. Other times i bring computers to waste away long hours between classes. The wireless connection is a simple login and you're in. There is a special computer lab for anyone doing homework. Art students have first priority for some computers with special programs, which i thought was brilliant. If you're in the library or computer lab, printing is with money, but if you're in the special art class with computers and printers and promise to print art things only, it's free.

I think it's actually been pretty good. I am actually a full time student, so i don't work for work to get in my way, but i do have work at home to take care of. And because i take so many classes, i need hours of classes to be different to fit, and i usually make it work.
College Senior 2013-07-25T23:49:21Z
I would say the art program. The fact that people are more likely to get hired when finished a certificate or degree in the art field in ARC rather than an institute or university says a lot. As a matter of fact, people are actually coming from institutes/universities to ARC to get their degree in art new media.

I am not that much of a campus activity person, but i have gone to the library, which is pretty good. I found the athletic and PE grounds to be enjoyable. From what i can see, the campus is clean and easy to enjoy, especially as they start making it better and better with the construction that's going on.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
