The American University of Paris houses students in affordable studios in different areas of Paris (depending on the student's budget), which would normally be very expensive since the cost of living in Paris is extremely high. The University finds accommodations that are usually not very far from campus buildings and transportation. Some college students choose to live in group housing for a semester or longer. Arrangements like this should be made with the Housing Office in advance to ensure that the accommodations are available. Students are also given the opportunity to search for housing independently from what the University offers.

It is important to keep some factors in mind when choosing student accommodations, such as the thought that a student should not live far from campus if they tend to sleep in late. Also, there are transportation strikes in France where the service on many metro lines is cut down. It would be important to look for an alternate route since a strike is not an excuse to miss classes.
