AU is technically a dry campus, and students need to be aware that if they are caught with the possession of alcohol or illegal substances on campus, the school has the right to turn them in to campus police for punishment. Who you get as an RA can make a huge difference because some RAs are much stricter than others when it comes to enforcing the rules. While students can get away with having a few drinks in their dorm rooms with a couple of friends, there are no massive parties in the dorms. The partying occurs in off-campus fraternity houses and nearby apartments. 

The campus upholds strict rules and penalties when it comes to keeping everyone in check, and alcohol is not permitted anywhere on school grounds, even for those over 21. With recent drug busts, the campus has been cracking down on illegal activity. The best advice: if you must partake in activities that the school forbids, then do it quietly in your room and, odds are, you won’t get in trouble.

They have strict rules that are poorly enforced. Everyone laughs about the "Dry Campus" policy, especially since there has been alcohol at university sponsored events like the graduating seniors' dinner, etc. Also, drinking is rampant on campus and while they threaten consequences, students can get away with a lot if they are smart. The smoking policies are not enforced at all. Students smoke right next to building entrances rather than maintaining 25 feet. The resident hall assistants rarely write people up, and occasionally partake in rule breaking with their residents.

Socially, students are allowed to bring whoever they want, as long as they take responsibility over that person. Adulthood!
