Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

AU has one of the most diverse student bodies in the nation, with students from all 50 states and a very high international population. Students come from all different ethnic, family, and religious backgrounds. Very few students are awarded scholarships because AU is not overly generous with handing out financial aid packages. Although there are some students on full scholarships at AU, most students are from wealthy or middle-class families.

The female population outweighs the male population, and there are a number of gay and lesbian students. The majority of girls at AU complains that there are not enough eligible guys to date.

Faith and Freedom

There are people of many, nany religio9us beliefs here at AU. As a result, there are many worship services held here every week--and all in the same small chappel! We share the space and are respectful of eachother, and no matter what you believe you are generally welcome to sit in on others' services and see what it's all about. We also have an Inter-faith forum that meets once a month to discuss inter-faith issues. And oh yeah, there's also an atheist/humanist society.

Where Is the Diversity

If you look on American Universities stats about students they will try and make it seem like there is much diversity here; which when it comes to sexual orientation is true, but the diversity definitely ends there. There is a lack of races within this school. Hardly any Latinos, Blacks, Asians, you name it you will hardly see them. Also, within the faculty the majority of people are white males. Barely and females, and the females that are teachin are not of varying races. I have to applaud the STUDENTS of AU for attempting to make a change with this very debilitating issue. Students of minority groups, be it sexual orientation, gender, or race need to see people who are successful in their field to continue to stay motivated through a very challenging college career

Gays, Foreigners and Wasps

AU has four main categories into which their students fall. You are either a gay man, an international student, a preppy white kid from the northeast, and there are some that can be described as normal and middle class. There is not an enormous black population here but the black students tend to stick together.
