Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

AU has one of the most diverse student bodies in the nation, with students from all 50 states and a very high international population. Students come from all different ethnic, family, and religious backgrounds. Very few students are awarded scholarships because AU is not overly generous with handing out financial aid packages. Although there are some students on full scholarships at AU, most students are from wealthy or middle-class families.

The female population outweighs the male population, and there are a number of gay and lesbian students. The majority of girls at AU complains that there are not enough eligible guys to date.

A True Melting Pot

As former President of the Black Student Alliance, I know that AU is working to increase the amount of domestic minorities at AU. Minority students can find comfort in the Multicultural Affairs Office which serves as a resource to minority and first-generation college students. AU is fill of international diversity which makes AU what it is. AU is extremely accepting to the GLBTQ community and we have a GLBTA resource center. In regards to economic background, everyone comes from a different one and you aren't judged based on where you come from. People accept you for who you are.

AU also has Kay Spiritual Life Center which offers over 25 different religions and if they don't offer a service for your religion, they will bring in someone so that you can worship. We have prayer rooms for all religions as well.

Politically, AU is pretty liberal but we are open to and appreciate political diversity.

Diversity

AU students generally like to think of themselves as accepting of others and willing to learn about cultures and societies that are unknown to them. Usually this does happen, however if you're not from New Jersey/New York or an SIS major that makes you diverse.
