Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Students interested in Greek life have plenty of options as to which fraternities and sororities to join, although there are no houses for them on campus. Frats and sororities are a good choice for people who feel overwhelmed and want a surefire way to make friends. Students who don’t care about Greek life need not worry, as these groups are entirely possible to ignore.

Many of the students involved in Greek life live on the noisier South Side of campus and are responsible for the rowdy environment there. This makes them easily recognizable for anyone who wants to join in their activities—or anyone who wishes to avoid them.

No Animal House

The Greek life at AU is good and there are plenty of frats and sororities that are chartered by the university. Nobody is going to pressure you to join anything and, for the most part, the frat brothers are nice. There aren't any university-sponsored Greek houses, but the individual frats/sororities usually have their own house off-campus.

Great If You Like Frats, Great If You Don't

Welcome Week = Frat parties. UNLESS you don't want them. Brothers and sisters are all around but they do not rule the school. It's just extremely fun if you're involved. You can have friends that are involved, and friends who aren't. Chances are, though, your whole freshman year will be full of frat parties in the weekends. And boy are they fun.

Greek Life

The sororities/fraternities are available if you like that kind of thing, but not annoyingly present if you don't. The university tries to create a sense of community in the dorms, so you don't need to be involved in Greek life just to have a group of friends.
