Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

No matter what type of cuisine you are craving, D.C. is the perfect place to satisfy your taste buds. It seems that every country in the world not only has an embassy in D.C., but also a restaurant. The more adventurous your tastes run, the more fun you’ll have exploring cuisine in the city. There is every type of food imaginable, and restaurants range from fine dining experiences to fast food.

Fortunately, for students with thin wallets, there are cheap diners and eateries that surround campus. In nearby Tenleytown alone, there are restaurant spots that serve Mexican, French, Japanese, Thai, and classic American food. Students stress the importance of going beyond the comforts of fast food and late-night pizza and experiencing the endless international flavors the city offers.

Sick of TDR?

If you're willing to walk down to the nearest shuttle stop you'll find that TDR and the Tavern aren't your only option. Tenleytown has a lot of good, cheep dining options. Z-Burger, Popeye's, Panera, Chipotle, Starbucks, etc. There are pizza and chicken places galore. For someone more interested in international food there's Neisha, a Thai restaurant right across the street from the metro stop.

As a freshman with the required meal plan most of these option are more expensive then just swiping in at TDR, The Tavern, or Salsa. However, as any upperclassman or grad student will tell you, once you no longer have to buy into the exceedingly expensive meal plan blocks you realize that TDR is $11 a meal and the Tavern can get pretty pricey as well. So in such cases it might be a better option to hope on the shuttle.

DC Dining Is Amazing

Check out all of the options in Tenleytown - Z Burger is a campus favorite, as is Chipotle, the new Panera Bread, Whole Foods, and Dominoes. A quick metro ride away are options in Friendship Heights or Dupont Circle. A great mix up chain favorites that everyone knows and Washington, DC originals. Check out Crepe Amore in Georgetown...and our millions of cupcake places!
