College Prowler Take

Finding suitable and affordable off-campus housing in a decent neighborhood can be a huge headache for students, and they often find they must have one or more roommates to swing an apartment or house. Despite this, a significant amount of upperclassmen choose to leave campus. One pro to off-campus life is that in DC, you’re never too far from a Metro, so you can find your way to AU for classes quite easily.

Two options are the Park Bethesda and Grover-Tunlaw apartment buildings. These were previously controlled by the University as upperclassman and graduate student housing, but have since been made available for rent to the public. They are still popular among students, however.

It's available, but I wouldn't recommend it freshman year. You should stay on campus and get involved with the school. For your upperclassman years, The Berks, a huge apartment complex within walking distance, is a great option if you want to share an apartment with friends.

Living off campus is drastically cheaper. I'm moving off campus next year. I won't have someone to clean the bathroom, but so what? I'll have to walk a bit further to class—no problem.
