Overall ExperienceWhat's This?

Many students agree that there is something for everyone at AU, and they are rarely ever bored. Though the school’s population is relatively small and has fewer parties compared to state schools, many claim that it is worth it to be in D.C. and the surrounding area.

Upon arrival at AU, the adjustment period can be tough for people not accustomed to an urban setting. However, making friends is quite easy, and even the shyest students will be able to integrate themselves into the small, tight-knit AU community. For the most part, students have no problem expressing themselves socially or academically. It seems that a “work hard, play hard” philosophy best suits the students at American University.

Great Choice

I chose to come here not entirely sold on it, but knowing that I wanted to be in DC and at a school that actually had a campus to hang out on. Since I started coming here I have fallen more and more in love with the school. The campus is gorgeous, there's sucha wide range our people here you're BOUND to make friends no matter what personality you are, the classes are interesting and the city is AMAZING. All I can say negative is make sur eyou check out ratemyprofessor.com before scheduling classes because who teaches can make all the difference in how enjoyable aa class is.

The school is pretty awesome, and I would do it all over again. The professors really care and try to make the classes interesting.

American University is very...

American University is very politically active. No matter what your political views are, you can find a club to suit your tastes. However, more liberal or left-leaning clubs dominate the campus, as well as the faculty. In general, the faculty is very qualified and concerned with the performance of students.
