Things I Wish I Knew Before Coming To School

It’s not as small as you think.
Not reading the newspaper leaves you out of a lot of conversations.
Owning a suit is a must in DC.
The city is more than just monuments and museums. Exploration is key.
The girls-to-guys ratio does make a difference.
The Metro is super convenient, but it’s super expensive, too.

Tips to Succeed

Extracurriculars are a fantastic way to meet people and build your résumé.
Get out into the city! You’ll make connections and experience an entire metropolis.
Go to your professors’ office hours. The faculty is accessible and available to help you.
Work on campus, party off campus.

Urban Legends

A giant mutant beaver-type creature prowls the campus at night.
An old woman who lived near campus donated a huge sum of money before her death for the perpetual garden maintenance that goes on.
The black squirrels and gray squirrels that live on campus constantly fight each other.

Traditions

Around finals time, students gather in the courtyard between Hughes and McDowell Halls to yell their heads off for Primal Scream and watch other students flash them from the overlooking dorms. It’s a stress reliever.

School Spirit

The Blue Crew is an increasingly large group of rabid fans that go to sports games covered in team colors that raise a ruckus. Think customized T-shirts, face paint, and wiled crazy cheers.
