  • Eya lata: See you later
  • The 'Herst: Abbreviation/nickname for Amherst College
  • MoHos: Female students from Mount Holyoke College.
Traditions

  • : Slide down Memorial Hill on a dining hall tray on the first day of snow, with your shirt waiting for you at the bottom.
Urban Legends
  • Amherst has such a large endowment that it can afford to purchase absolutely anything for its students.
  • Parties at Smith and Holyoke are only attended by hot, voluptuous, and naked females.
  • That the hardest thing about Amherst is getting admitted. Once that's accomplished, it's easy to get high grades because of the massive grade inflation here.
  • That the rivalry between Amherst and Williams Colleges actually stems from genuine reasons, and not from manufactured and made up ones.
Favorite Things To Do
Chilling at Schwemm's and hanging out in the game room at the Campus Center are two options of wasting time with pleasure. There are numerous plays, dance shows, open mic nights, lectures, and so on, every week. A cappella is also huge here, and there are five groups on campus that hold regular shows. Buckley Music Hall hosts mostly classical music, concerts every week. The best thing is that everything, aside from some a cappella shows, is completely free to Amherst Students. The gym and swimming pool are near Memorial Hill. In Campus Center there is a game room with pool, ping-pong, and foosball tables (a big hit here), as well as a free jukebox. Also in Campus Center, Schwemm’s is the campus’s favorite lounging area.
