i think Greek students are viewed by non-Greeks as stuck up and maybe slutty. Some people think that you're paying for your friends if you join a sorority or fraternity because you have to prove you're good enough to be a part of it, rather than them just accepting you. I don't think that's the case with Greeks necessarily, i think it's a vary good way to make friends, through all the social events they have, a good way to do community service, and to make connections for your future. i have a few friends that are in sororities and i don't treat them any different than my friends who aren't in sororities, i think that just depends on the person not on whether or not they are Greek. There is one building that i know of that's for girls in a sorority.

i know of two bars that have dance floors that are considered the "clubs" of Boone. i went to one of them once, and it was fun, its only as fun as you make it to be honest. i went to one of the bars too, which are hardly a block from my dorm room and it was really cheap to get in, and i assume the other bars are the same. the bars are very small however, so there's always a lot of people standing outside or just ridiculously cramped in. Parties aren't too difficult to find. there are usually a few on saturdays and maybe one or two on friday and thursday nights.

Guys & Girls:
i think there are a lot of different kinds of people here. i don't think there are that many very attractive guys or girls, but there are a few. the people that i surround myself with are all artsy whether it be through theatre, painting, sketching, music, etc. Those are the kinds of friends i've always had because in high school i was in marching band in the color guard, orchestra, and theatre. i haven't made friends with the preppy girls that i always see, for example the ones in my hall not because there's anything wrong with them, they're nice, they're just not my kind of friends.

if i were to choose again, i would still choose this school because i have already made a home away from home here. i did that rather quickly in the school year too. the place is beautiful, most of the people are so nice and genuine. i got lucky with having really good teachers, and finding friends to make in all of my classes. i was 100% sold on it when i started my experience in the theatre department. theatre is what i want to do so if i would have realized that i wouldn't like the people or the atmosphere or the academic program itself, i wouldn't rerun. However, i have found some great people and friends through just the one show i was a part of this semester. i heard nothing but great things about most of the teachers and of the program itself.

there is a bus that will take you anywhere on campus, and anywhere in the town of Boone. the problem is figuring out which bus it is that does this. you have to look through the entire schedule of all the buses to find the one destination you're looking for. also you have to be aware that the buses are usually late at least by a few minutes.
College Freshman 2013-12-10T06:32:59Z
the only thing i know of off- campus housing is the popular places where people want to live, and they're nice but pricey. i know the school helps you find places off campus because i went to a seminar about housing a few weeks ago.

Health & Safety:
the health services is in the middle of campus, so it's convenient and they're very good. i went there for a case of severe, constant headaches, and they diagnosed me, gave me medicine, and now they're gone. I haven't heard of any incidents of crime on campus, so that doesn't worry me.

The food here isn't as bad as i thought it would be. i thought i would be sick of it in a week. they do have the same things all the time, but it isn't bad food. the main dining hall is only open until 10:30pm though which is annoying when you're up late studying or with friends and you're hungry and without food. one of the markets is open until midnight, but for me that's not convenient because it's on the other side of campus

there isn't much to do in Boone, especially since i was born and raised right outside of Washington, D.C. The mall here isn't even a third of the one back home, and the activities are just the movie theatre, mini golfing, bowling. theres also the parkway, which is absolutely beautiful and there are some places for hiking and camping along those trails, which is fun if you like the outdoors.
College Freshman 2013-12-10T06:22:46Z
i don't have a car on campus, so i don't know much abut parking and fining. the only thing i know are the bad things (because that's the only thing people talk about). People get fined almost immediately, which is good because they shouldn't be there, but i have a friend who walked up to the officer while he was writing her ticket, and she said she was going to move it, but he gave her the ticket anyway.

printing on campus is fairly easy since there are a few buildings other than the library where you can print things out. the network has crashed a few times but i think, in general it is reliable. The wireless access on smartphones depends on what type of server you have, for example, i get good service almost anywhere and i have Verizon, i have friends with AT&T considering to switch.

i am only a first year student and hadn't decided what my major was going to be until about half way through the semester. So, i haven't taken any classes in my major yet.

i think the entire campus is worker friendly. with the 4 story library, having different levels of noise allowed on each (the 4th being completely silent), the huge lawn in the middle of campus, where can you can lean against the wall. there are also a lot of cushions along the hallways of our Student Union with small tables. Then there are the lobbies in each dorm, and the lobbies on each floor of some dorms, with tables and chairs, a sofa, and smaller sofas. There are also the large study areas in the lobby of the dorm, it's closed off lined with tables, chairs, and a white board.

There aren't many places that you can walk to so you have to build your schedule around the various bus schedules which can be annoying. There are a few places you can walk to, but only about 3 or 4 and only 1 that is open 24/7. as college students i think we are constantly hungry and should be allowed easy access to food all the time. Also, with everyone's varying schedules, people have breakfast lunch and dinner and vastly different times. there are a few restaurants, however that are worth the bother of the buses.
College Freshman 2013-12-10T06:10:35Z
i think with the dorms its really hard to call any of them bad. some have perks other don't. for example, my dorm is one of the newer ones so it's nice looking and has an elevator. my friend's on the other hand, is older and doesn't have an elevator, but she has a closet as opposed to the armoire i have, and she has a sink in her room which is really convenient. Her dorm rooms also come with a mini fridge and microwave already in place, where as mine do not. Most of the dorms are a good distance from classes. the only issue is that to get back to some dorms you have to go up very steep hills, but thats because we live in the mountains so we can't fix that. in my dorm i also like that we have a common area on each floor, instead of just in the lobby like my friend's dorm. it makes it easy to study with people and made it easy to meet the people in my hall at the beginning of the semester.

The environment nice, the food is good and the people are inspiring and helpful. They are all so passionate about the school especially football which makes it that much better of an experience.

The university is extremely helpful as far trying to help you get a job in the workforce and striving to help you succeed. They work with many companies to get you connects and possible jobs for when you graduate. The workload is expected and can be stressful at times but proves to be worth it.

The professors come from all areas and can be different depending on their individual personalities and beliefs. They can be very helpful or very difficult, just depends.

The diversity on campus is huge and wide spread. You can meet people from all different walks of life and background so it is really interesting. Acceptance is common but there are those close-minded people who have their own opinions who aren't antagonized for it. The diversity is eye-opening and really helps to make a person more accepting and less judgmental.

Off-campus housing is average, with a decent amount of options to choose from but with prices varying from place to place. The availability can be bad sometimes but it is not to terrible. The school allows people to promote their apartment housing costs and prices through posters on campus. Pros- gives freedom and independence from dealing with dorms, Cons- accessibility is sometimes an issue as well as price.
College Sophomore 2013-11-27T19:49:28Z
The on campus dining is good. It has as much variety as off campus. You really have a lot to choose from and they make it so that they keep everyone in mind, including vegetarians, lactose-intolerants, etc. They also have markets on campus where you can use your meal plan also to get a larger variety of items to choose from. Meals plans are a set price that parents pay that is then put on a university issued card that you spend for the semester. If you run out, you have to ask your parents to put more on, so spend wisely.

Guys & Girls:
Girls on campus are like most other schools. Attractive, funny and love to party. I find that most students dress how they want depending on their own style. It is made up of usually non-casual dressing like jeans and shirts whatever you prefer. The social life is similar with the weekend actually beginning on Thursday and continuing until Sunday. The relationships is average for most but some choose to enjoy being single.
College Sophomore 2013-11-27T19:41:01Z
The off- campus dining is full of a variety of things to choose from. There are many different options and restaurants to choose from and to enjoy. You will hardly fell like you have to eat the same thing in Boone.

I am personally not apart of any Greek Life but my former roommate is and he seemed to enjoy it a lot. The campus is very free thinking so if you are not apart of a fraternity or sorority, the don't look down on you for it. And vice versa. The Greek life is average at the university but does not consume the entire school atmosphere which is good.

The bus system, known as Appalcart, is very useful for the general populace. Their are four different routes that go to or nearby areas that you need to go which makes have or needing a car not a necessity but would a convenience. The cost to use Appalcart is free so you never have to come out of pocket to use it.
