I am no longer at the school due to my lack of interest in the programs... Some of the classes were interesting, but it didnt seem to me to be challenging

Living on campus connects you to everything that is happening on campus. We have 19 dorms on campus and they are on west or east side of campus. Most of the west side dorms don't have air conditioning and are not renovated. All of east side dorms except for East Hall are renovated and have AC.

Appalachian State's campus life is truly like a family. No matter how many people you know, you always feel like part of the App family because we support one another and love App. On campus, two of the residence halls has been LEED certified and we have solar panels on top of buildings and really encourage recycling. The student center offers the bookstore, market, coffee shop, restaurants, gym, movie theater, etc. Also, there is the Solarium, which is our tropical outdoor room that is inside. There are many student hangouts, Sanford Mall, Plemmons Student Union, coffee shop, Durham Park, Duck Pond Field, and lobbies in residence halls.

We have three workout gyms on campus. The academic programs are filled with professors that truly care about their students and excited about what they are teaching. The professors are more than willing to help out their students in anyway. Also, we have a tutoring service that is open to everyone and free of charge. As for the social scene, we have a movie theater and concert hall on campus, concert hall just off campus, 2 restaurants that turn into night clubs at night, and football games are always packed. Campus life is fun and offers lots of programs. We have everything from intramural to varsity sports, free/low cost concerts, Homecoming Blood Drive that collects the most blood in all of NC, clubs for everything from ethnicity and religion to academics. There are more than enough opportunities for everyone here at Appalachian.

Just like everywhere else, there is alcohol and drugs on and around campus. Alcohol is only seen off campus, used at house parties and night clubs, there is no peer pressure to drink, and on campus the policy of no alcohol in the room if you are under 21 or your roommate is under 21 is strongly enforced. Cigarette and cigars are smoked on campus and a good number of people smoke. All other drugs are not allowed to be used or smoked on campus, so you don't see it being done on campus, but i would say less than half use these drugs. There is no peer pressure to use these drugs and if there is any assumption that someone living on campus is using these drugs, the floor RA calls the police and they take care of it. All people who are caught selling drugs are either kicked off campus or suspended.

Football is defiantly the top supported team here.

The only concern is finding a job if I don't get into physical therapy school

Parking lots are difficult to get into and prices are outrageous. The one good thing about them is that from 4:45pm on, you are able to park in the lots without a permit to go to evening classes, the library, the gym, etc.

The AppalCart in Boone is a great service to have, but there are times when it's not reliable. Also, since school has gotten back in session, buses are filling up twice as fast as I've ever seen them.
I personally would never pay for a parking permit on campus; I think the prices are outrageous.

Guys & Girls:
The girls at Appalachian State are very physically active and very outdoorsy. There are many types of girls including girls that like to rave and party but there are also many southern belles. The guys are very outdoorsy as well and there are guys that range from straight up hippy to very preppy.

The drug scene at Appalachian State depends on who you hang out with. Alcohol is the most used drug as at any college. Other drugs depend on who you hang out with.

The locals are great, probably because the students bring in so much business. A common attraction is the Blue Ridge Parkway. Its a great place to go to unwind, as is Tweetsie Railroad. The unique shops offer axcellent shopping opportunities.

The music program is one of the best around. The music building has tons of practice rooms and there is even a hangout spot on the roof! All the teachers are very good and fun to listen to, if you can believe that!

There are a lot of great places to hang out at, whether you want to hang with friends or study for a big test. Sometimes the places get crowded, dpending on the time of day and where you are at. The library has 4 floors, each with a different noise level, apart from the 4th floor. Its very nifty.

Someone for Everyone – The range of people at ASU is crazy. You'll find everyone from hippies and earthy type to a large selection of pretty preppy Greek people. There are plenty of hot guys and lots of pretty girls (coming from a girl).

Good Variety – There's a good variety of places to eat off campus, something for everyone. The cost is pretty fair and many restaurants are geared towards students.

Sucks If You Dislike the Cold – If you don't like cold weather, then don't come to Boone. It's cold a majority of the year, and classes are seldomly cancelled.

Decent, I Guess – There are a ton of white people here, but there are also different races of people here, as well as people from different countries around the globe.

Drinking Vs Drugs – drinking is very popular but drugs are not really a problem as far as i know.

You Have to Try – Each major has its own requirements but none are unreasonable. You have to put in real honest effort but it is worth it. All majors require general education classes (also required to graduate, you can't avoid it). The gen ed. classes aren't very fun but they give you a good basis for preparing for your major. The biggest tip of all is.... keep your grades up!
College Junior 2012-08-27T00:03:17Z
Very Good Computer Access – There are plenty of computer labs on campus. Internet reliability can be shotty in the dorms but it is usually fixed a week or so into the school year. It cost 3 cents per page to print unles you have your own. It is a good idea to have a computer and printer, but you can get by without either.

I Love It Here! I enjoy Appalachian State University. The people are great and there are so many cool places to go. The best part is that App is only minutes from the Blueridge parkway. It is loads of fun to take a short fieldtrip with your friends along the parkway. The music scene here is great too. There is a genre of music for everyone here.

Firm but Fair – Appalachian State University does have rules, like any campus, but it isn't going to have a huge impact on student lives. Really, the rules and punishments are no different than what parents generally do. Of course you can lose financial aid if you aren't careful. All in all, the school expects students to act a certain way but understands that we all make mistakes and act a little crazy sometimes.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
