Loving the View – Appalachian State offers many different things to do and to be involved in. Appalachian State also has activities that involve outside organizations, which give people a chance to interact with the outside community. Appalachian State is placed in the best spot I could ever think of!!! It is located just a few minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway and Blowing Rock, NC. The shopping in Boone and Blowing Rock give you an experience that you will remember for a lifetime because they both offer attractions and stores that you will not see in a bigger city. The local attitude toward students is very positive and supportive because the local community works very hard to help the students, faculty, etc in anything that is needed, for example, the community helps when the university puts on blood drives, homecoming activities, etc. There is always something to do on campus or off campus. Everyone definitely works together to make sure that each person has the experience of a lifetime while also receiving the education of a lifetime.

Working to Diversify – Appalachian State has many different opportunities to bring those of different races, religions, political stands, etc. There are many organizations on campus that give students the opportunity to bond with others that have the same views, ideals, etc. It also gives students the ability to see the different views of other people and gives them an opportunity to make their own decisions about who they support, accept, etc.

Appal Cart – This bus is free and can take you all around Boone!
College Junior 2012-06-04T17:56:52Z
Appalcart and Safe Ride – The AppalCart is awesome to have for its convienence, but it gets crowded and is very rarely on-schedule. Still, if you don't have time constraints it can get you pretty much anywhere in town and save you a lot of gas money. Plus it's hard to complain when it's free.
Safe Ride is for if you're on campus at night and for whatever reason you don't feel like it would be safe to walk back to your dorm. They'll pick you up and take you back. I've never used it, but it seems like a pretty cool feature.

Great Range of Choices, but Not All Are Good – McAlister's and Chick-fil-a have on-campus locations that are very popular. There are a bunch of options at Central Dining Hall but some are better than others. Breakfast food seems to be particularly bad for whatever reason. The food at Trivette Hall is absolutely sub-par. There are coffee shops in the Library and Student Union that are awesome for when you're studying.

Very Difficult Time – I had a very hard time getting financial aid. I didn't feel like the Financial Aid office was willing to help me. For example I had an unsatisfied requirement for a month that I didn't know about because I was never called or e-mailed. Final awards didn't go out until MID-JULY which was just ridiculous.

If you're willing to pay a hefty fee for the school year, any student can get parking as long as you do it by the deadline. For the most part, the parking distance is within reason from campus. Lots are definitely well kept and well lit at night. There are also emergency phones in every lot and public transportation buses run to every one. If you aren't there early however, it is hard to find a spot. Police are very strict about parking so if you dont have a permit, you're pretty much guaranteed to get caught and receive a ticket. However, a plus is that after 5 pm and on weekends, all of campus is unrestricted parking. You pay even more for a yearly parking permit through a private company off campus and most of the time the conditions aren't much to brag about.

Good Overall – For the most part, Appalachian is good about their computers. You can normally find a spot in the labs or library and printing is never a problem as long as you have money on your express account. I have my own computer and I personally think that is easier but I dont think it would negatively effect your school performance if you didnt. The only thing I dont like about it, is that the WiFi is pretty much hit or miss. It can be good at times, but 9 times out of 10, it is slow and annoying. It causes a lot of problems and frustration for me. Typically, a students biggest issues arise around exam time when it comes to computers.

Getting Into SD – It was very easy. There are no requirements, but the classes tend to be on the more difficult side.
College Senior 2012-05-17T21:02:13Z
Sustainable Development – Love every professor ive had in this department. They aren't all easy, but you will really learn things in the classes. I dont have concerns about finding a job due to all the help you can get from professors and the career dept.

There are always computers to use. There are computer labs in every building which have printers. The only bad thing is wireless service is not very good.

Health & Safety:
Appstate...A Safe School – The safety precautions instituted at Appalachian State have been implemented to ensure safety at all locations on campus. The campus offers excellent lighting of the pathways throughout campus, and phones strategically placed in the event of an emergency. In addition, a valuable service to all students is Safe Ride which transports studnets on campus during the evening and overnight hours to ensure safety. Overall, I believe Appalachian State offers a beautiful learning environment with every potential safety concern addressed throughout the campus.

Sorority Row...The APH – The sororities are housed in a former hotel with a hint of southern charm. The rooms are large and each has its own facilites including separate bathroom and inidividually controlled air condition. The university is continuallly growing and building eco friendly, home like dorms to accomodate the growth. Through a collaborative effort between the universiyt and the community, public transporetation is offered for all students living in the dorms and off campus.

Greek life has fostered new relationships, numerous community opportunites, and academic excellence for me. Ongoing community activites are available and encouraged with a point system. In addition, the leadership opportunities within the sorority have fostered professional and personal growth. Greeks collaborate with each other and offer numerous opportunities for members.

Boone Is a Small Town – Boone, NC is a very small town. So the nightlife can easily be monotonous
College Senior 2012-05-15T17:36:25Z
No More No Less – The parking on campus is great in relation to the size of the campus. I do not believe anything really needs to be changed other than maybe lowering the permit costs just a bit.
College Senior 2012-05-15T17:33:34Z
The computers at school are definitely not top notch but I do not see the need to have extremely nice computers when the money saved on the perfectly usable computer we have can be used on many other things

Pick Your Moment – There are some good bars and clubs but you have to be careful when you go. Galileo's is great on Friday since there's kareoke night, which is always popular. The Tapp Room is a good bet for food and drink, but go to Char if you want to dance. Beware of Parthenon and Klondike on weekends if you're allergic to the fraternity element. House parties at App are GREAT if you pick the right one. Under 21s beware, you'll be doing some hiding in bedrooms if you drink.
College Junior 2012-05-13T06:22:27Z
Not Very Diverse Racially, but Definitely in Other Ways, and Very Accepting – A large majority of the students at app are white, but if you arent its definitely not a big deal. The school is pretty accepting and they are all different types of people personality wise. The schools definitely pretty liberal, and also pretty accepting of people with different sexual orientations.

So Many Places to Eat! Boone is pretty good for off campus dining. There are so many places within walking distance that you can eat at, from plenty of fast food choices to pretty cheap sit-down restaurants. You can also find fancy more expensive restaurants for when your parents come into town in Boone and in Blowing rock that are pretty good

Health & Safety:
Pretty Safe Campus – I remember when I toured ECU the guide said she didnt feel safe walking around by herself at night. I have no problem walking around by myself at app at night and Ive never had any concerns. For people who for some reason dont feel comfortable walking around alone at night (or are lazy) theres safe ride, a system that'll pick you up from anywhere on campus and take you anywhere else on campus. They come pretty quickly and are good for when youre just not feelin walking from one side of campus to the other

Good Teachers, Good Facilites, Workload Depends on Major – Pretty good facilities, the professors are generally very nice and willing to work with you. My first semester was a breeze taking all gen ed courses and i had very little trouble making A's and had plenty of free time to do what I wanted. Second semester I started taking classes for Biology so i had to take Chemistry and my workload became a lot more challenging and stressful. Basically workload and the easiness of your classes depends on what major you choose and which professors you have
College Junior 2012-05-13T05:51:59Z
Easy to Find – I'm not really into the whole drug thing, but I have plenty of people who I know i could get it from. Pretty easy to get, but also easy to find people who aren't into it. Pretty much everyone does whatever they want and there's not really any peer pressure either way. The school's definitely not as into weed as i thought it'd be but drinking's pretty popular here.
College Junior 2012-05-13T05:47:15Z
Theres not a lot of places to park on campus and campus police can be pretty strict with tickets. But, if you live on campus theres not really a need for a car anyway.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
