Unexpectedly Delicious – Considering most other college cafeterias I have eaten at, ASU does a great job of keeping the food very fresh and available. ASU offers a wide variety of traditional food, ethic food, healthy selections, and vegetarian option. The dining halls are very clean and most are available. I like how late the dining hall and other food places are open, but I wish they opened the main dining hall earlier. I have early classes and it'd be ideal to stop by and grab food when I'm done with my 8 am classes, but he dining hall is still closed. Besides that, ASU clearly exceeds my expectations for "terribly horrifying college cafeteria experiences".

Not Very Strict – I wish the campus was a little bit more strict. It's not a 100% dry campus, and I wish it was. There are quite a few parties. Thursday is known as party night.

Variety of Students – I would say that the majority of students on campus are white, but there are quite a few other diverse backgrounds on campus also. I would say that it is a 65/35 percent ratio. Everyone accepts everyone else and people get along great. People tend to just stay out of each others business.

Apartments Are Everywhere and Most Are Reasonably Priced Too!! You can find apartments everywhere in Boone, and most are reasonably priced. You will find some right on main street that are more expensive, but they are well worth the price most of the time. I've never rented one, but I'm told that most landlords are nice and easy to work with knowing that your in college.

I Absolutely Love It – I love that there are so many opportunities here at App. There is something for anyone, of all interests, to get involved with. Great people, great weather, awesome professors and just an all around great atmosphere.

The appalcart is actually a really cool concept within Boone. It sucks because it's not just for App students but for any resident in boone and there are some really sketchy people that live here but its free and convenient.
College Junior 2012-03-28T03:44:02Z
I thought about rushing but App doesn't have official school recognized greek housing besides the opportunity to live in the APH for sorority girls. Which is a huge hotel filled with sorority girls.. Doesn't sound too fun. Frat parties are pretty fun most of the time if you like to party but Greek Life isn't that exciting at App for the most part.

Financila Aid – For me, I don't know much about the process, so it was confusing to fill out. But in then end I got some money. I think the stress of needing money so I can save to afford a Masters Degree makes the process extra stressful to me.

ASU is a fantastic school, we have a wide variety of extra curricular activities, fantastic and dedicated staff, and the most supportive community. I feel bad for anyone who doesn't attend this school.

In Boone, of campus housing is decent, we have better prices then some of the larger schools, like NC State, and we have a good variety of housing near campus and away from campus, with buses running to most non-walkable locations. Finding pet friendly locations is difficult, and most the affordable places are unattractive. But for the most part, you get what you pay for, and since Boone is a safe town, its not too bad. Its what I would expect an apartment to cost, thought many students complain that it is out of their budget, however, I don't think they take into account the actual cost of living.

Athletes Get a Smack on the Wrist – I was, up until recently, under the impression that student assaults fell into a no tolerance category. However, events that occurred a couple of months ago regarding three athletes and several females have changed my opinion of that. If you're an athlete, you are ensured to get out of any wrongdoings.

Not a Party Town – Nightlife isn't a big priority for most students here. There are clubs for both 18 and 21 up, but they are small. Transportation is available for safe traveling; both SafeRide and Appalcart are easily accessible.

Best Views in the High Country – Boone is such a beautiful area. One thing I enjoy most is the abundance of local businesses and coffee shops in the downtown area. The people here are the kindest I've ever met; always willing to lend a helping hand, waving to you or saying hello regardless of familiarity with you, and lots of Mountaineer pride being displayed throughout the town. Some of the greatest places to visit here are free, as a quick drive to get on the Blue Ridge Parkway is a surefire way to relax and take in the beauty of nature.

If You're Looking, You'll Find It – Pretty much everyone has access to drugs and if you want it you can find just about anything. Most people have smoked weed before, but it's not hard to find groups where drugs aren't prominent. I would say that marijuana is the most widely used drug (after caffeine) and is definitely more prominent than drinking. It's not hard to stay out of trouble if you're careful, but if you're dumb you will probably get caught. Campus police have a 3 strike system, but if you get caught by Boone police you're pretty much screwed.

The wireless sucks, the printers are hard to use, and the keyboards in the library are gross. The good thing is that you really don't need your own printer, but I am glad I have my own computer, as the library has dumb hours.

Depends on What You Like – ASU has lots of great things to do nearby (hiking, skiing, climbing, camping, etc.) but don't expect it to have lots of shopping or nightlife. It's not a city, and if you come here you should expect to occupy yourself either on campus or out in nature. Boone and Blowing Rock have lots of awesome restaurants that you can have your parents take you to when they come to visit, but many of them are far away or really expensive. Overall, you'll love it if you like being outdoors, but if you expect a city you'll be disappointed.

Mountain Environment – I chose this school because I wanted to live in the mountains. There are numerous outdoor activities to do in your free time. I've enjoyed hiking on the Blue Ridge Parkway between classes as well as the many other surrounding trails.

Lots of It but Not Cheap – Housing off campus is available almost anywhere in Boone and the surrounding area. There are walk to campus options as well as scenic student housing out of town.

Laid Back, Lots to Do and Super Cool – Boone is one of the coolest towns around. Everything is located close to the university and there is plenty to do. Breathtaking views!!!

Profs Really Care – I have felt the difference of attending App State. All of my professors seem to genuinely care about us and help with the many aspects of college life.

It's often cold and rainy on campus so it makes going to class or being active outside a little more challenging.

Parking is rarely a problem. People get booted or towed for being careless or lazy, but the rules are well-known and gracious in my opinion.

The workload is fair, but challenging. You have the option to create your own major which is really unique. Great place to learn!

Not Too Much of an Influence – About 10% of students are involved in Greek Life. There main activities include partying and partying, but some do also get involved with the community. Greek Life is not a huge part of campus but it's not bad if you want it.
