The transportation is excellent at Appalachian State. There is an campus wide transportation system available to all students. It is free and easy to access.

Guys & Girls:
The students at Appalachian State are diverse. Although, the population is made up of different students , the students are united in there common interest of school pride.

App Is Great – App is really what you make of it. You can be a party-goer if you choose, but you can just as easily not. It gets really cold here, but that's prime time for studying. Buy some good snow shoes, a warm jacket, and you'll love it.

Pretty Fair Judgement – Sure, you'll get in trouble for alcohol and drugs, but depending on who catches you, you might get an easy time depending on the circumstances. Don't speed, though! Speeding tickets are pretty common on campus, and only park on campus if you have a pass.

Meal Plan Is Great – I like the meal plan a lot. There are no set limits on meals or snacks per day or week, and there are two markets on campus that are like mini grocery stores, which is great if you like to cook your own food. There are two main dining halls other than that, and a food court in the student union. The school is definitely vegetarian friendly, too.

PARKIN... Yeaa About That – The ASU Police Usually do crack down on unwanted cars parking on campus during NON-parking Hours. Because of this, everyone knows the rules: NO parking without a permit before 5:00pm but the car is allowed to be parked anywhere at anytime on the weekends. I suggest that you DONT park your car on campus during campus hours unless you have a parking pass!

There are lots of people from different cultural backgrounds, and races, and ethnicities here at APP. Although most of the population there is Caucasian, there are many other races and ethnicities that really make this college a diverse one. The people here dont judge by skin color. We are one big happy family!

Apartments Are Average Priced – Boone has many off-campus housing options. We have a housing fair every quarter that specifically offers students different apartments around campus. They are all remotely close to campus and if not there is always the Appalcart, our campus bus. I would highly reccomend our off-campus housing

Beautiful in the Beginning and End – When you first get there and when you are leaving are the prettiest times. The winter snow storms can be a pain.

I did receive as much financial aid as I think I should have gotten but the amount was adequate. The staff on campus are somewhat hard to deal with and they are not very helpful. It would probably be in best interest to ask a student worker in the financial aid building for advice rather than the actual worker because they are a lot more helpful and cooperative.

Parking Is Intense – It's hard to park anywhere on campus without getting fined for it. Everywhere there are limits to where you can park and most of the time a cop is always out to mark your tires if you stay in that spot too long.
College Senior 2011-05-07T03:04:16Z
Drugs Are Most Popular – Drugs on Appalachian's campus are pretty prevalent. The main drug seen visibly is Marijuana. I have seen it out walking around on campus often. Drinking is also an issue but the drugs are even bigger.

I Love It Here – I would never transfer from App because it is the best place to go to school. The chancellor really cares about the students and he get involved in so many things. He attends every home football game, he has students over to his house, which is on campus, for dinner and if you have a suggestion for something to improve he will take it into serious consideration. It is small enough that the professors know your name but big enough to get a diverse education and have the opportunity to be involved in many different clubs and sports and whatever else you want to do. You can walk just about everywhere and the bus system is awesome and runs all day.

Boone Might Be Small but There Is a Lot to Do – Boone is right on the Blue Ridge Parkway so going to that is a big thing lots of people do on the weekends and on breaks. There are many beautiful attractions within 30 minutes from campus and they are easy to find.

The Professors Are Awesome!!! I came to Appalachian because of the School of Music and the professors who teach here. They are so willing to help with anything you need and want you to succeed. The curriculum is very well-rounded and I feel like I have learned a lot from my non-major classes. I have never had a problem with the registration process and my workload is average for a music major, 12 classes/18 hours. ASU offers so many study-abroad options that anyone would be able to find something they are interested in.

We Just Became a Wet County 10 Years Ago – Nightlife is ok in Boone, most of the time you have to make your own fun. The three bars we do have are 21 or older and the ABC Spirits closes at 9pm. It is a small town and we used to be a dry county until recently so not much.

Not Enough Room for Everyone – There aren't enough dorms on-campus for everyone who needs to live on campus. After sophomore year, you are lucky to get housing on campus because there is nowhere to grow in Boone. I knew I wasn't going to get housing on campus for next year so my roommate and I got an apartment but I am student teaching next spring so I have to find a subleaser for that semester.

There are many computers available on-campus that you don't have to have a personal computer but it is really nice. The main library is open 24/5 a week and on the weekends during the day so you can use a computer whenever you want. The wireless is pretty reliable on-campus but in my dorm the internet connection is terrible. Printing is really cheap, I actually prefer to print something in the library than on my printer because it is cheaper than buying ink cartridges for my printer.

Health & Safety:
A Very Safe Campus – The Campus Safety alarms have never been used. It's probably the safest campus I've ever heard of!
College Senior 2011-04-04T21:58:38Z
The Campus Is Great! The campus is very beautiful and state-of-the-art! Appalachian State University selects a different building every year and sets it aside for a total renovation. This keeps the campus looking new and well-taken care of. The student facilities are great, and there are plenty of places to hang out and eat! It's a fantastic campus!

While Greek life is offered and somewhat popular, it's not as big at ASU as some other universities I have visited. Most chapters on campus are open and welcoming to anyone interested, and most chapters have good reputations among the community and Chancellor.

Guys & Girls:
Guys and Girls – Appalachian hosts a very accepting atmosphere for students. We have interest groups from several religions and ethnicities as well as greek life and many student led associations for almost every personal interest imaginable.

While we don't offer many vegetarian options, we do offer restaurants from nearly every ethnic variety. Local dining is very cost effective, offering something for everyone from cheap late night food to fine dining and black tie places.

There is a bus system at Appalachain called the Appalcart. It's route goes through campus, downtown, and to college apartment complexes. It is free is extremely convenience. It also runs during the winter, which is very important because it snows quite often in the mountains. I love the bus system at Appalachain.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
