Elementary Education Majors – My professors have been great and the curriculum and workload for elementary education has been very good. registration can be very frustrating though because there are so many elementary education majors trying to take the same classes.

Apple Cart – Appalachian offers a bus to come and pick you up at designated areas. These areas are usually covered too.

Most of the time if you get in trouble you will get off with a warning and nothing really every comes of it.

Parties are going on every night and every day. It seems as though the party never ends. Bars are everywhere and people are always going and drinking, the only downside is the huge "X" they put on your hand if you are under 21.

Durg and Alcohol Scene – In aspect to a good time and quite a lot of fun I would give this school an A++ because alcohol is everywhere, and drugs don't seem to be too hard to come by. However, it seems to be a major distraction to a lot of students and that is why I have given it a C.

Computers at Appalachian State are in practically every room and there is always a variety between Macintosh and Microsoft.

Health & Safety:
Health and Safety – Security around campus is very good. Campus police are always making sure that everything is in order and not out of control.

Parking for students is a problem at the school due to locations of parking lots off campus and must ride a bus to get your car.

Athletic Centers – The college has spent alot of money to upgrade their football facilities. Football is a source fo pride for the school.

Great setting, Boone is the best place in the entire world. I love it!

A Fun Addition – Greek life is perfect at App. It is very popular and many people choose to join, but if you choose not to join, you will do perfectly fine friends-wise. Most frat parties are open to all girls regardless of if you're in a sorority or not. Fraternities are more dominant with males because it's not as easy to get into parties if you're not involved with Greek life, but it's still not something that I felt pressured to do.

Not Very Diverse – The only black students that I know of are ones that are either involved in sports teams or are there on scholarship. App is becoming more diverse as their sports teams get more popular along with the school itself, but it definitely has a reputation for white "mountain men".

Lots of Choices – There are 2 dining halls on campus. One is very very good. The other is pretty old. The newer one has a lot of choices and is nicely renovated with lots of space to sit and eat. The older dining hall is convenient and also has a McAlisters Select which is very nice, but the actual dining food is not so good. I wish the dining halls would have more healthy options that aren't necessarily vegetarian, such as vegetables that aren't soaked in butter.

It is a small town, with not many areas for parking, but the campus really does make the best of it. You have to buy parking permits in order to be close to campus, but you can buy them through campus or through businesses throughout the town. There really is no need to have a car on campus, because Appal-Cart runs everywhere you need it to go.

Wouldn't Go Anywhere Else – Varsity sports at Appalachian are what the school is all about. People come from near and far just to see the Mountaineers play. We have brand new training facilities, our own psychologists, tutors, trainers, and academic advisors, and getting priority registration and early-movein to the dorms is wonderful as well. Our IM sports are huge as well because everyone can be involved.

Small Town With Big Dreams – Boone is a small town, but has so much to offer. If you like the outdoors, this is definitely the place to be, and we are near ten ski resorts, which are destination spots for many tourists. Our football team rules the mountain top, and people from all over come to Boone just to see the Mountaineers beat our rival, at the bottom of the mountain, Western Carolina.

Cold Winters – During the winter it can get really cold and it snows a lot. It's especially bad when you have to dig your car out of your spot, but the appalcart bus system does pretty well and runs all around boone.

Lots of White Students – most students are white, and most of the minorities are only there for the athletics. The male-female ratio is about equal though, and there's a good diversity as far as sexual orientation and political beliefs

Fast Food – most of the places are fast food, cheaper restaurants and buffet-style food. there are some, but not majority, nicer sit-down eateries.

I Personally Love It Here – I can't really explain everything in a choice by choice survey. App is a really amazing place to be. I wouldn't change my decision for the world. I've wanted to be here all my life and I don't regret it at all.

A lot of the Greek members are just complete jerks. They seem to be stuck on a pedestal and are letting it get to their head. Most of them only care about the parties and all that great stuff. There's too much on campus dedicated to just Greeks.

Sports Are More Than Amazing – Varsity sports at Appalachian State University are definitely more than amazing. Two time national champs in football, amazing basketball teams, great baseball. Sports are definitely a staple here.

CAMPUS LIFE – THE ASU CAMPUS IS GORGEOUS, THE NATURE MAKES THE CAMPUS BEAUTIFUL, PEOPLE LIVE IN A TRANQUIL ATMOSPHERE AND ITS ALWAYS FUN TO BE OUT. THERE ARE PLENTY OF CLUBS AND GREEK HOUSES TO CHOOSE FROM, SO THAT IS GREAT TOO. THERE IS A MOVIE THEATER, MANY PLAYS ARE OFFERED, AND GYM CLASSES ARE GREAT.
Recent Alumnus 2010-05-19T03:30:54Z
ASU STRICTNESS – ASU IS PRETTY STRICT ABOUT ITS RULES, FROM ACADEMIC INTEGRITY TO SMOKING POLICIES, ETC. STUDENTS ARE OFTEN INVOLVED IN MAKING OTHER STUDENTS RESPECT THE POLICIES THAT THEY BELIEVE IMPORTANT. OTHER THAN A COUPLE SMOKERS BEING A LITTLE TOO CLOSE TO BUILDINGS I HAVE NOT NOTICED PEOPLE GETTING AWAY WITH BREAKING THE RULES.

Health & Safety:
Safety at ASU – Crime occurs everywhere so it's impossible to prevent it a 100%. At ASU the police is always patrolling the streets around campus, making sure everyone is safe and respecting the transit laws. Some crimes have occurred, but not a significant number. Overall, safety at ASU gets a B+
