There is not enough parking. Period! You have to get to campus at least 20 minutes before class/ whatever event you are going to in order to find a parking spot. Then, your parking spot will most likely be nowhere near your destination, so save a good 5-10 minutes for just walking. Another parking inconvenience at this school is that everyone has to move their cars to random places on/off campus for game days. I find this to be inappropriate considering that everyone has to buy a pretty pricey year long pass that should allow them to park wherever they want, anytime they want. I love this school, but parking is something that DEFINITELY has to be reevaluated.

Health & Safety:
RA's and nightstars do well to make sure no illegal activity in the dorms occurs which is great. There is also the bluelight systems all across campus that you can run to and call the police straight to your area if you're in danger. I also like that we have safe ride which can take us from one side of campus to the other late at night. The only problem I have is with the police on campus. They bother me in the aspect that they are very assumptive and don't bother to really ask questions. I almost couldn't come to school here because they were going to tarnish my record because of what someone else did. They didn't bother talking to me and just assumed. I'm sure they're just doing their job, but they could've been a little bit better about handling my situation properly and professionally.

I will not attend Appalachian State University until the fall of 2014

I have had no problem getting into the two year psychology bachelors program. The most important criterion is to have the 57 credit hours and the money to pay for classes.

I have never had an internship. But, I would love to a internship in the Department of Psychology or in the guidance office. I have recently stopped working with therapeutic teenagers in my home in order to devote 100% to my college education. My long-term goal is to open a independent living home for homeless teenagers or teens Aging Out of Foster Care.

Greek life doesn't bother me. I did go through rush and was only matched with one group and dropped out. My heart wasn't in it and for the most part I didn't have the time/enthusiasm it seemed to warrant.
Greeks don't usually bother non-greeks. The guys are kind of douchey but a lot of the girls are friendly.

School is not any stricter than any other school, I feel. Their rules aren't unreasonable, and if you are just generally respectful and responsible, you won't have a problem. I drank in the dorms underage every year until I turned 21 and I was never caught. Just don't be an idiot, don't be loud, and stay in your room!
I do, however, think they should be stricter in enforcing their smoking policy. They have policies but have not once enforced them, leaving it to students and staff to confront rule-breakers which often doesn't do anything.

Parking on campus is AWFUL. There are only 2 dormitory buildings that allow students to park their cars in the parking lot. No matter where you park, it is $300+ for the semester, even the parking lot that is over a mile away from campus. For people like myself that work night shifts, it is absolutely awful. Either you park on campus and risk a $30 ticket/towing, or you park where you have a pass and risk being alone at night trying to get home.
I had to buy an off-campus parking pass this year, which is even worse. There's no public transportation to or from my parking lot, and they charged me $375 cash only. (COULDN'T EVEN TAKE A CREDIT CARD)
Bottom line. It's absolutely ridiculous.

The on campus dining is not very conducive to special dietary needs. The labeling for what the food contains is not very clear for those with food allergies like myself. If you do not have a food allergy you will have many different food options.

In Boone, you find a lot of different forms of culture. The people range from hippies to preppy. Boone will turn you into more of an Earthy person no matter where you start out. There aren't a lot of racial diversity though.

My school is really good about making sure that the outdoors is very well kept. The main quad is the center of student life and where most things happen on campus. The gyms are very nice, the aquatics center is a very nice facility. Legends is our on campus venue where music acts come and normally we get a lot of really good acts.

The parking in Boone is sub-par and off campus living is expensive.

There is no parking in Boone in general. Mostly downtown and on campus you have to pay to park, and for a limited time. Parking passes range from 250-850. The meeter maids and campus parking staff are always checking cars to catch someone, and ticket or boot.

There aren't many places for people under 21 to go on weekend nights or weekdays unless its to someones house. Public transportation isn't very reliable at that time, so Beepers or DDs are the way to go.

It is a mountain school, but the school s very active on making sure to create a multicultural experience as a student. It has expanded greatly over the last ten years or so.

As for college dining halls, Appalachian has the basics. There's a Chic-Fil-A and sub shop, as well as a pizzeria and burrito place. The food gets old after eating it nearly every day, but it's tolerable.

There are a variety of majors with professors who are willing to get personal and help your needs if you ask. The general workload hasn't been terrible, but that is really based on who your professor is as well.
