I did not have to do an internship during my undergraduate career.

The process of getting into my Communications Disorders major was very competitive. You must fill out an application and be interviewed. There are prerequisite classes to take before you can apply. Students with high GPAs are more likely to get into the program.

there are groups of people depending on your interests

The food has a variety, but may be lacking in quality

Weed is not uncommon at any college and Appalachian is no exception.
College Sophomore 2013-06-20T21:49:14Z
Well it seems to be that the majority of the student body is white.

I ate at the Central Dining Hall everyday twice a day. The variety is great. As a vegetarian I was worried about options, but there were many places that catered to my needs. There are also markets on campus where you can spend your meal plan money.

Public transportation around Boone is good. The Appalcart runs about every 30 minutes or so and has routes that cover all the main spots in Boone. However, the arrival times posted are not always be reliable. Also the closet airport is in Charlotte.

Guys & Girls:
Outdoorsy and comfortable, but with opportunities for dressing up.

Lots of sororities and fraternities to suit your every desire; however, all of the houses are off campus. So if you are looking for the quad atmosphere, this is not the place for you.

Guys & Girls:
The people here are all very earthy, so if you like that kind of style this is the place for use. However, you've still got all of your clone sorority girls and your beefy spoiled football players, that are always considered attractive. I would say App has a pretty attractive student body.
College Junior 2013-06-16T17:53:18Z
There is food for anyone and everyone, the local cuisine is delicious and the restaurant staff throughout Boone is always friendly to students.
College Junior 2013-06-16T17:51:00Z
Boone is a town that loves and thrives off of the university. The main street always has study related discounts, and the town all but shuts down for athletic events! There is always something to do, mostly outdoor things but there is also shopping and movie theaters!
College Junior 2013-06-16T17:49:24Z
Weed is a very popular past time at Appalachian State, there is a three strikes kind of rule depending on how much you have. Prescription drugs are not tolerated, will result in expulsion/suspension. Alcohol is not as prevalent on campus, because we don't have a Greek quad or any houses.
College Junior 2013-06-13T02:56:37Z
There's not much parking on campus unless you're a professor or a graduate assistant, but most of the parking spots are located on the Appalcart route. Most of the permits are about $200.

Health & Safety:
Boone is such a small town that you always feel safe.

There's a lot of snow in the winter, and it's bitterly cold, but the summers here are the best in North Carolina because they're not too hot.

I love Boone, it is a college town in the mountains of North Carolina. The scenery is beautiful and there are a lot of outdoor activities available in close proximity. The students really get excited for football games, and the entire town is supportive of the school.

In hindsight, I would have chosen a different major as I had planned on attending law school. Once I realized how saturated the market was with attorneys I decided against taking on that much debt with no job certainty. It is very difficult to pick a major at such a young age, however I wish the academic advisors would take into account job outlook when offering advice.

Interned with the District Attorney's Office, it was very hands-on. No pay, 40 hours a week but you learn a lot. I had a lot of interaction with the public in this position and even got to help organize the evidence for a capital murder prosecution

Health & Safety:
Never felt unsafe on the campus, would see officers on bike patrol regularly
College Senior 2013-06-10T21:49:44Z
Police are always patrolling the campus to be sure that everyone remains safe throughout the day and night. I do not know how they resolve problems on campus when they arise.I pride myself in saying that everyone gets along with everyone here.
College Senior 2013-06-10T21:47:31Z
I love eating at the dining hall when I am on campus. I feel that we have a large variety of things to choose from and everything is always fresh and usually local.
College Senior 2013-06-10T21:45:29Z
I live off campus however I have friends who love living in the dorms on campus because they are so close to everything.
College Senior 2013-06-10T21:44:31Z
Public transportation is extremely accessible around the town as well as the campus. A bus stop can be found at most apartment buildings, restaurants, and popular roads. There is also a bus that is available for use when public transportation is closed.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
