The diversity on campus is huge and wide spread. You can meet people from all different walks of life and background so it is really interesting. Acceptance is common but there are those close-minded people who have their own opinions who aren't antagonized for it. The diversity is eye-opening and really helps to make a person more accepting and less judgmental.

I think that Appalachian is extremely accepting of everyone's views. There is a big LGBT community here and while it isn't that racially diverse, we do have foreign exchange students and we are accepting of all races and cultures that are here. There are various political and religious beliefs on campus and there are clubs for almost every religion and every political party.

Out of 20,000 students, around 500 are African-American and even less numbers of Asian, Hispanics, and other ethnic group. The school borders on unanimously Christian, and there is 1 practicing Muslim that attends (she is the president of the Muslim Student Association and the only one that wears the traditional head scarf). So as you can see, there's not much diversity. There is, however, a strong LGBT community and a wide range of political views.

It is a mountain school, but the school s very active on making sure to create a multicultural experience as a student. It has expanded greatly over the last ten years or so.
