Every college has drug and alcohol abuse on campus. I feel as if Appalachian does an average job on taking care of this problem on campus.

There a lot of drugs around, but there is no peer pressure into trying them.

Lots of kids use around campus but there's not a lot of pressure

....use what? sorry, not a smart comment, I just know this could mean multiple things.

Weed, mostly. Moreso than an average college in NC because of the 'hippie' culture. But it's not like you have to smoke to "fit in," there are lots of students who don't.

Oh ok. I was worried it referred to harder stuff.

I've heard stuff about people using LSD or Ecstasy, that's also related to the hippie atmosphere. But it's really not that common from what I've seen. Students aren't shooting up heroin or using coke or anything crazy like that.

Drugs are at every school. Boone makes access to it much easier but there is almost no peer pressure.

I haven't seen people using drugs, but I have heard people talk about underage drinking and smoking marijuana. The law seems to be well enforced... Read more »
