The process is slow, stressful and usually you only receive loans which most people do not want.

I submitted all my information online and most of it went through however I had some trouble with the loans and making sure everything was set in place the way it was supposed to be.

The university has 2 programs geared towards students who cannot afford the cost of attendance, one of which I am a part of. However, you can only receive the exact amount of the cost of attendance and nothing more. So if you need money for books, supplies for certain classes, money to return home at the end of the semester, etc. you must acquire it elsewhere. My art class required $200 worth of supplies, and I ran out of money on my meal card, so I had to find a job on campus. Also, neither of the programs allows for the application of extra loans of the students own accord. So if you need extra money, you have to get a job or scholarships, if you cannot get either of the two, there's not much that can be done.

When looking at Appalachian's website, I was eligible for several invite-only scholarships, but they only sent me an invitation to apply for one.
