Students must register their cars with Public Safety, and it's $60 per year, which isn't too bad compared to other schools. And if you lose your hangtag or if it's stolen, it's only $5 to replace it. But sometimes, students can get tickets for parking in an unauthorized space or if their permit isn't properly displayed; if students get three or more of these violations, they are subject to getting "the boot" (think Homer Simpson in the episode "The City of New York vs. Homer Simpson"). To remove the boot, it's $25 (in addition to the fines you already owe). And if the boot remains on the car, you will owe an additional $15 per day, and, after three days, the car will be towed. When it comes to parking, the best bet is just to be smart about it. Make sure your hangtag is properly displayed, and make sure you're parking in the right lot.
